Hi all! My first post on the forum, so let me be polite and introuce myself ;-) My name is *** and I am from the Netherlands. Since yesterday I am the proud owner of a Beo 610 (or TR26). There is very limited information about this interesting radio, and I wondered if anyone could help me with the following. The radio works on batteries, and I'd like to create a 220 power supply (or adaptor). Since the battery compartment allows 6 batteries, my assumption is that the voltage would be 6*1,5 = 9 Volts. Can anyone confirm that, and secondly, I would assume that only a very limited current is needed. thx in advance, ***

Great software! In fact my name is D*i*c*k, but that seems not appropriate for Beoworlders ;-) /dck

Hi D1ck, The Beo 610 came with (what I believe was an optional) mains power supply for building into the radio. Not all owners needed this power supply because the radio was mainly meant for use on boats etc. Mine has it and it's in the schematics as well. The power supply gives -12V. Note that the radio uses "negative voltage" all through, all voltages are negative with respect to ground. Martin

Thx Martin! I am this week in DK so I cannot have a closer look, but what I remember is that it was indeed an option, there is room next to the battery compartment for a power supply, as well as a small opening in the back of the radio for a mains connector. You think it would work if I built in a power supply myself and connected it to the leads to the battery compartment? Or would that be blasphemy and do you advice to keep the powersupply external, and not modify the radio itself? How much power (watts) should the powersupply be? I have no documentation at all, so I am sorry if I have to ask dumb questions ;-) /d1ck

Yes, no problem to contribute. but... - I have not used this particular radio yet, since I need to get the power supply up and running, so the more help I get on that the faster I can write something :-) - But secondly I need to be humble, there are so many people aout here knowing so much more than I do, but if I can be in anyway helpful for starting, sure I want to do. Can you point me to example descriptions, so I know what kind of description you'd like? /d1ck

Hi Martin, Today I have give the radio to my wife (as it was a present for her), so I could have a closer look. First of all, the schematics were missing from the envelope that's at the back in the inside :-( Furthermore I have measured the leads to the battery compartment, and as is seems the earth is connected to the negative pole from the batteries. And it also seems that the batteries that fit are 1,5 Volts batteries, so that means it does run on 9 Volts. So could it be that I have a different version than yours, or am I mistaken? Sorry for bothereing, but just want to be 100% sure before damaging the radio... Any help is really appreceated! thx, d1ck

Have a look at the articles in the product section. To be honest though, anything you like! You actually have one! I have written the odd article for this site and Beocentral and tend to simply describe the product rather than make any subjective comments.

To me, it seems that everything runs on -9V when batteries are used and split up when mains is used so that the amplifier then runs on -12V and the rest on -9V, both voltages then coming from the mains power supply. According to the schematics, the positive lead from the battery pack goes to ground (through the power switch!). e1f1/e2f2 is the power switch. e3/f3 is for switching on the dial lighting (constant on when run on mains). Contacts 1-12 are for switching between mains and batteries. Martin

Absolutely great help Martin! Will have a closer look tonight. It'll take me a bit more time because I am not near as half technical as you guys, but interesting stuff anyway ;-) A few more questions: - would it be possible to purchase the schematics (or a copy of it)? - my FM tuning knob is damaged and I was wondering if there was a source to purchase replacement parts? thx, d1ck

The knob will be a bit hard to find. I would love to be proved wrong but I think they are unique to this model and the tuning knob is the only one of that size, the others are far smaller. Maybe one of the early Beolit portables (611 DeLuxe) is close enough ? I don't sell manuals. PM to D1ck. Martin

Tak Martin! I am a newbe, but I haven't seen so far a model with comparable knobs. Btw the tuning knob I meant was the FM tuning knob, and that is a small one. Not that I think that changes the case and many people will have them lying around... ;-) I will later try to post a picture with the damage, because I think it will be easier to repair than to source a spare one. But I paid 20 Euro for the radio, so not much to complain anyway I guess... /d1ck

Thx for the link Andy, I cannot use that one right away, since I have no portable radio, but a stationary on batteries. I could make it fit of course, but then it might be easier to build a stabilized powersupply myself. But I'll keep an eye on it anyway, so if the price doesnt go up too high, and the seller wants to ship to NL... /d1ck

Hi ***, i'm back in NL now so if needed i could help here and there (as i replied to you in the PM). For the time being, if you don't want to do 'harm' to the originality of the radio you could just buy a standard power adapter of say 1A (set to 9V) and connect it with clips to the battery contacts. Is the double telescopic FM antenna still present on your's ? (a next thing usually missing). In coming future i may have some spares for this model since i have 4 (i think) and only want to make/keep 1 complete and working :). Also i could advise you just to keep your eyes open on the usal internet selling places since here in NL i have seen this type of radio being offered several times for little money, if you're lucky you'll find one with power supply and/or antenna and/or schematics.... The funny thing is i also know that on international sites these sometimes are sold for big money, in other words: i don't think it's a waiste to make it complete, original and working.... Also because i find 'in the world of B&O' this is a bit of a strange radio, somehow it doesn't seem to fit in with the other products which makes it kind of special....
(hmm...i didn't type the censor stars where your name was to be, if this is some auto-censor thing i find this shouldn't be necessary here....)

Hi iPaul, Nice to hear from you! Yes, I have the FM antenna, and not damaged! As I wrote above I paid 20 EUR so that seems a very fair price to me, even with damaged knob and no power supply, at least I am happy with it. And as you indicated I will try an external power supply, I also thought 1A should be more than enough (I think 500mA might be enough, but better safe than sorry ;-) And spare parts to restore this to the original state would be brilliant! I might post some pics, or is that not common practice on this forum? (I haven't gotten the PM yet as I just checked) cheers, dickb

When you post as you just did, hit the options tab at the top of the posting frame and then Add/Update to attach a photo. When you are done, click the "Post" button at the bottom of the frame. Martin
