Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

I am currently testing the new version of Beoport (4.65) on a number of PC's of different configurations and in different states, i.e. clean install, upgrade without de-installing previous version etc to understand some of the installation issues which some members have encountered. Given the major enhancement of this version is to provide "CD covers" icons, this is another area of test, using a clean install and also doing multiple scans etc. After all the testing has been completed I will provide a full review in this forum.

In the meantime, please post here issues noted related to:-

    1. Installing or upgrading an existing installation
    2. Issues related to the "CD Covers" downloaded automatically from AMG

Also, several people have noted that not all their albums have covers download, yet they exist for download, do you have this problem ?

Others possible and yet to be confirmed issues relate to doing a scan subsequent to the initial installation or upgrade where album covers are only added when you copy a new CD. Have you seen this issue ?

    Regards Keith....

Do these configurations include both Vista and XP?

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

    Hello Keith !

My Beoport 4.65v update install came about by first reading about it in BEOWORLD. I would not have been aware of the 4.65v upgrade without being advised by one of our members in that topic thread.

The actual installation was quick, smooth, and flawless, over the previous version. No problems of issues whatsoever.

On the CD cover artwork, many album covers did not in fact load, or update even 24 hours later. Rather than wait, I chose to copy and paste those myself, using XP Windows Media Centre. Given the number of albums I have, many by the same artist, some of the copy and paste covers were of my own choosing.

James Last Orchestra, for example. We have most, if not all of his music. Here I used actual concert photos we have taken in DE, GB, + CH, rather than the original album cover. Many of the photos were reduced to  800 x 600 megapixels, which appears more detailed when the N.Music Info is clicked on. The result on a 42 Plasma screen is distinctive and enjoyable.

Some task you have taken upon yourself there. I'm impressed. Looking forward to your findings.

I am trying a clean install of BeoPort 4.65 on a Windows Vista Ultimate. It fails due to USB issues.

Have a look at my post here http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/thread/62939.aspx

    Mikael,

Thank you for your posting. I will provide a complete review when all the testing has been completed which will be weeks rather than days.

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

Hi Keith, you glutton for punishment!
I have XP Pro SP2 and Beolink PC2 with SW 4.61.
I down loaded 4.65 easily but it still runs 4.61
I have yet to see any change for example, apparently you can look at photo's and listen to NMUSIC at the same time. I can't
I have also yet to see an album cover! Where is this visible, on the left next to each track or on the right under the info 'button'?

    Poor me, never win owt!

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

    Good evening Andy,

    A few points

If you are running Windows XP with Service Pack 2 with Beoport software version 4.61 currently installed and you subsequently install version 4.65 without first un-installing 4.61 (normal case) then depending on your system configuration you will either see:-

    1. No change and the "Guide" will still show you running version 4.61
    2. The guide shows you are running version 4.61, but some album covers are downloaded after inital installation, but subsequently no further covers are downloaded.
    3. Album covers are download and shown until you do a further scan at which point no further downloads appear to occur.

With your configuration you must completely un-install Beoport, then reboot your PC and install Beoport 4.65

Even with version 4.65 installed and working correctly you cannot look at photo's and listen to N.Music at tehe same time.

With version 4.65 correctly install you will still only see some album covers both on the left list and when you press "info" when N.Music is playing.

    Regards Keith....

Thanks for that in depth reply my friend.
    I did try and un-install the 4.61 but I didn't re boot.
I'll try it again this weekend and keep you informed.
BTW my 'Shift, phono'  thread might interest you. If you know the answer, don't spoil the fun, PM me insteadWink

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

Well, I have just disconnected my PC2 USB and  un installed 4.61 completely then shut down and restarted my PC.
I then downloaded 4.65 from the official site and clicked 'Run'. As soon as it started to install, the dialog box said it was downloading 4.61
When it finnished and I re-registered (for the umpteenth time) it was straight back to square one Angry
It even remembered which track I was up to on NMUSIC.

    Andy,

Let me start by saying that if the dialog box says you are downloading 4.61, then you have the wrong version. If I run it it comes up with version 4.65 as below:-

    4.65 Splash screen

It maybe that you are actually downloading through a proxy which has not been updated.

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

    Hooray!!!Party!!!
    Finally got it going.
The only thing I did differently was, instead of clicking 'Run' I clicked 'Save'
Strangely, when I opened the folder it was saved in, it was sitting there side by side with the download I had done an hour ago. Both different versions!
First time I installed, it wouldn't let me register and therefore had no NRADIO stations.
I just clicked 'Repair' and this time it allowed me to register.
I now have everything functionong correctly
Album covers, how cool is that?Party!!! I'm well chuffed.

Funny that you should ask Keith.
After my scan, just a few covers turned up but every time I click on NMUSIC, more keep turning up!

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

During my testing I have observed the following symptoms related to "Album Covers" and I would be pleased to received feedback on this thread of your observations.

Having tested Beoport version 4.65 on 4 PC's so far both as "clean" installs, in other words Beoport was not previously installed on the PC or as an upgrade I have noted the following points:-

    1. If music files exist in your "My Music" folder prior to installation, then after installation either no album covers are downloaded or just a few and the ones that did not get downloaded previously do not subsequently get updated.
    2. When you copy a CD from PC CD it seems to always run the downloader for the cover, but never checks for other missing covers
    3. If you add music files AFTER Beoport has been installed it seems to download the covers every time correctly.

So, the observations so far are that if you are a new user of Beoport and you do not have any music albums on your PC yet, the new version will work perfectly for you. If you already have a copy of Beoport on your PC with Music files or you already have music files on your PC before Beoport is installed you will get verious results with regards to the Album covers, how many are downloaded, or if any are downloaded at all.

Please provide your feedback of Beoport Version 4.65 in terms of "Album Covers" only

    Regards Keith....

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

    Hello all,

I downloaded and installed 4.65 the other day and everything including albums worked fine (on XP). There seems however to be a bug in the random function. Instead of playing random songs within a playlist, it plays random songs within all my playlists, which kind of kills the whole point of a play list for me.

Has anyone else discovered this issue?

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

Hi anders,  I missed this too to begin with, there is a config option within setup that controls random playback either within a single group or across all groups, so it's not a bug but a new "feature"!

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

I upgraded to 4.65 the day before yesterday but will probably have to downgrade again based on the following problem.

Since the upgrade my timer setting activating N-RADIO each morning in my link rooms has stopped working. The Timer setting is set in my BV5 as the master and the timer set activated in my bathrooms via BL3500s and in the Diningroom via my BeoSound4.

Since the upgrade the timer is no longer activating and I would almost suspect that there is a massive disturbance on the MasterLink as both the BV5 and BS4 are totally uncontrollable (frozen) until I unplug the ML from the Beoport unit and power recycle the BS4.

Once this is done and the Beoport is again connected and the Beoport application is restarted the system works as normal i.e. N-RADIO, N-MUSIC can be selected from any of the link rooms.

Note that on the PC locally N-RADIO works even though the other link devices are "frozen". This behaviour only seems to be triggered by the timer setting. The PC and attached loudspeaker are by the way not set to activate on timer.

Any ideas or is a rollback the only option.

    Kind regards Rolf

    Dear Gavin,

thanks for the advice - tested it and it works perfectly. Regarding the N-Radio issues I'm still stuck at square on. Have tried to install BP4.65 several times but it doesn't work. Just don't get it as I didn't orignally change anything in my set-up and N-RADIO just stopped working by itself.

    thankful for any advice

I upgraded to 4.65 and album covers seemed to all appear. Netradio however did not work. After uninstalling and reinstalling many times I finally traced the problem to an unused antivirus program which I have now deleted. I am now reinstalling CDs and all covers are appearing with the exception of a CD of Bach organ music. Instead of the cover I received a display asking me to submit info on the CD to add it to the database.

Re: Testing the new version 4.65 of Beoport

    My experience on XP SP2

    Un-installed BS2

    Disconnected USB cable

    Restarted PC

    Un-installed BeoPort (4.61)

    Disconnected its USB cable

    Restarted PC

    Installed BeoPort 4.65

Replaced USB cable when asked by the installation program

    Installed BS2

Replaced USB cable when asked by the installation program

    Results:

Both installation went with our any issues

Lost all playlists (N.Music and for portable players) which is a BIG pain!

No album cover at all, none!

Other than that it seems to be behaving its self, will use and report back in a few days as I’m a little shocked that it worked.  Had to replace 2 x Beoport black boxes as a previous upgrade rendered them in operable….

    Pete,

Frankly, I have not had time to complete the tests on all configurations, but I have managed to get it to run correctly under two Vista configurations provided you switch off several Vista facilities which effectively then makes it look like Windows XP to the program.
