    Serene durability

Any thoughts/comments on the durability of the Serene's outside? Does it get scratched or damaged easily?

Hi.  I've had mine for about 7 months.  Its fallen a few times and its still in very good condition.  The material used outside makes it possible for you to wipe away scratches effectively.

13 months now and mine looks like new on the outside. The screen does pickup marks from the dial so see how long you can keep the protective film on.
Mine virtually lives in my front trouser pocket, I have made it a habit not to put anything else in there except a clean hanky.

Thanks for the input!  I am trying to decide whether to try a Serene. Dealer has offered me a display model with a 30% discount and 30 days to try out so really nothing to lose I suppose.

    Re: Serene durability

Just to add to others' comments, I've had mine since March 2006. It gets well used every single day, and transported without a case in the pocket of my jeans, and it still looks like new. It even hit a stone floor from waist height and it doesn't even have a scratch. I was pretty careful with it at first, what with the cost of it, but soon learned that it's tougher than it looks. Enjoy!

Yes it does seem to be tough, and speaking of protective film, i bought some on ebay for $15 after postage and what i waste of money! I'd rather scratch the screen. It looked so disgusting with a screen protector. Mine lives in my pocket also & i hope the dial marks aren't too bad, anyway i don't plan to keep it longer than a year as Serenata will be replacing it and Beosound 2 will go straight to the garbage disposal (just kidding. Very tempting though)!

However, if you're unlucky enough dropping Serene so that it hits a hard surface with one of its sharper ends eg, the plastic shell will deform irreversibly ... in this respect it's, of course, not different from things made of similar materials regarding durability.

I'll take your BeoSound 2 Dave! I'd love to have a second one Smile

    Re: Serene durability

I read the posts here about the dial causing scratches or marks on the scrreen. I looked at my Serene and when it is closed the dial does not touch the screen at all. Have they changed the way it closes? Mine has two rubber stops at the base of the screen that keep the dial off the screen.

    Re: Serene durability

When it is closed, the rubber stoppers flatten when it is pushed together (for instance, in the pocket of a pair of tight jeans) and the dial touches the screen.

Yes, I agree with David. The rubber stoppers could do with being either more prominent, or harder material.
