Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
Hello, I just updated my new MacBook Pro to Leopard. I am struggeling with the audio a little bit in the moment. I have hooked up the Mac to my Beosystem 3 with a Toslink/SDIF adapter. Audio with iTunes is just fine, however playing a riped DVD only put out PCM and no DD 5.1 or DTS (even when selected in the movie). I checked this within the menu of the BS3. The BS3 than shows Dolby Prologic II I only tested this once with the pre installed Tiger on my Mac Book pro before I updated. But as far as I recall it worked fine with the same iso files. Any idea? kawo

Go to Audio MIDI Setup in Utilities and check that you have the right output, and that you have configured the speakers. Just guessing, as I haven't experienced your problem, but it could be that Leopard requires the speaker configuration.

Re: Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
thanks for the help....I have checked the settings, I can only select 2 channel audio and can not change the speaker settings. Same with my Tiger iMac G5. However, haven't try the iMac with the BS3. kawo

Re: Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
The problem may in fact be with Leopard. I have tried my Mac mini, which runs tiger and my MacBook Pro, which runs Leopard. When going to Audio MIDI Setup, picking Built-In Output (or TC Near for my digital chain - requires a Konnekt24D) I activate the Configure Speakers pane on both. However, when clicking the Configure Speakers on the Mini, I get the full functionality of the pane, with MultiChannel opening a drawdown menu (stereo default) with various surround speaker configurations under that. On the MacBook Pro with Leopard, I only get the default Stereo, and that seems to rhyme with your problem. This is all I could find over at Apple Discussions: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5691645

Re: Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
some more interesting findings: I installed Mediacentral http://www.equinux.com/us/products/mediacentral/index.html and it works with both DTS and DD! Switching back to the Leopard DVD player does not work anymore. Hmmm...I think this further investigations. kawo

Re: Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
So I found the solution....some times a laptop is to flexible :-). I changed the settings in the DVD player options to external audio and than it works. However, this option is only available if the TOSLINK connector is connected before you start the DVD player. As I did not shut down the MacBook I never saw this option....grrrr Anyway, problem solved and I look for a MacMini now to be my poor man's Kalaidescape System! cheers kawo

Re: Leopard with Frontrow/DVD Player and DTS/ DD 5.1
Great! Good to know. You mean the Disc Setup option in Preferences, right? Where you can set Audio Output? Just checked my MacBook Pro with Leopard, and it also first reacted when I attached the Toslink Cable, giving me the Digital Out Built-In option in addition to the System Sound Output default. But In Tiger I believe this was reset automatically when one picked a 5.1 or DTS track. And I wouldn't call it a poor man's Kaleidescape. I'm impressed by the flexibility of DVDPedia!
