Hi:

I'm stil debating whether I should invest in parts to bring up a Becord 9000. So far it needs a new motor and belts. I'm told that the original Mitsubishi motor is no longer available. The substitute one (from B&O) made by Mabuchi. I'm told that it is a fraction of the size of the original and not as well built.

 Does anyone have any experience with these new motors? Will it degrade the performance of the deck?

Are the transistor and capacitor that you speak of inside the motor casing?

One day the deck was turning very slowly. I took the casette mechanism out of the deck. I put the deck into "Play" mode and using my finger gently turned the shaft of the motor to get it spinning. During every revolution I noticed that the fuse was glowing bright and then dim. Eventually the motor stopped turning and the fuse blew out. I suspect that it is the brush inside the motor.

How do you even open the motor up?

I do not have a part number. This information was relayed to me by a B&O tech.

The motor is going to run upwards of $50 plus $20 or so for belts. I'm wondering if it is worth it to fix or if there is a cheaper way of going about it.

hi derek!

i had a similar problem with my beocord 8002 about three years ago. it turned out, that the lubrification at the motor-axis went dry and after cleaning and relubricating this the speed problem was solved; perhaps the same problem with your cord?

i didn´t have to dismantle the motor. if my memory serves me right (that was quite a while ago) the end of the axis can be seen on the one side of the motor. that was where i cleaned and applied a drop of oil. cuold be, that this opening was closed by a white plasticscrew. but as i said, that was some years ago....  after a quick glance now in the service manual i can´t find a reference to how to lub the motor, but as i remember the place to put the oil was rather selfexplaining. on the same side of the motor there´s also a small potentiometer, where you can regulate the speed, but i´d rather go for cleaning and oil...
