Here's a video of an innovative upgrade

Someone really made an effort. Nice job. But somehow I prefer original B&O gear.

The point is that vintage B&O systems lack the desirable feature of modern day systems capable of playing from huge song libraries. The Mac Mod was not designed to replace the B&O. It was designed to complement B&O gear and keep its relevance while conforming to the spirit of the the original design. If you look carefully the guy still uses the original B&O as the amplifier.

I have noticed the original B&O amplifier. I still think that all together it's a job very well executed. But is the Mac Mod totally made from scratch or is it a modified old B&O shell with new stuff inside? I am still not sure about that. It would make big a difference to me. If it's totally new then there is no problem at all. Modifying old equipment is a different story in my book. In that case I still would suggest to keep the old stuff and buy a new system if you desire the new functions. But that's just my humble opinion.

It's a pretty neat mod.  Certainly better than the one I'm going to do which is turn my old G4 server into a beer cooler.  Hell, mine isn't even original.

But yeah, to answer the question it was an old part that has been cut down since it was broken anyway.  That bit with the sliders and buttons was pure genius.

I think it is fantastic! Very very clever! I'd love to be clever enough to make something like this. Way beyond me!

A fantastastic mod indeed! Might be of use for some Beo-engineers to get new ideas! Great way of integration of modern technology with old school style!

    Beocool:

I see where you are coming from and agree with your views about gutting old equipment.

I don't use the cassette portion of my 9500. The panel interface is for the tape function is quite sophisticated and it would be nice if it could be used to control an MP3 player. But I would never take out the tape mechanism and stick an ipod inside even if it could be done.

Auric: I feel the same about my 9300. You probably know that there is a MP3 player in the shape of a cassette. I have no experience with this, but it will fit into any cassette player. It's not as nice as an ipod, but you can have an MP3 player inside an unmodified machine. There is a thread on Beoworld where this is mentioned, but I can't find it right now.

    Here it is.

Here's another one with better reviews.

Man, that's great.  I should toss one in my BS Century.
