Beovision 4-50 Compatibility with Beosystem 3

    Hi:

I have a Beovision 4-50 Type 8952, Item 1895226 with a S/N ending in 5309. I am currently controlling this with a Beosystem 1 and I'm thinking of upgrading to a Beosystem 3 but need to know if it is compatible with my Beovision 4-50 and are there upgrade/support issues.

    Thanks in advance!

    Al

    Hi Al,

Best check with your dealer or B&O technical directly - they can tell you straight off the serial number.

I don't recall any issues with BSYS-3 not being compatible on older BV4's - but you best check with the dealer.  If it's not a HD ready panel though, getting a BSYS3 won't help you achieve HD.

    Thanks,

    Martin.

Actually there is an issue, the panel must be a D7 or newer.  If not it will not have the DVI socket to connect the Beosystem 3 to it.

You can add the DVI card and flash the panel with new software...

If you don't have the DVI input I think your panel is a SD panel, BS3 can only be used with HD or FHD Panels.

some of the 50" panels that dont have the DVI cards built in but are HD at 1366x768 and still can use BS3. All you need is the DVI card added and flash new software on the plasma. I'll find out the exact serial number for you.

Re: Beovision 4-50 Compatibility with Beosystem 3

I just checked my Beovision 4-50. Looking at the rear from left to right:

    Slot 1 Empty

    Slot 2 & 3 below:

AUDIO IN - Right - RCA Phono

AUDIO IN - Left - RCA Phono

    S-VIDEO IN

    VIDEO IN - BNC

    VIDEO OUT - BNC

    AUDIO - Right

    AUDIO - Left

    Component VD - BNC

    Component HD - BNC

    Component PR/CR/R - BNC

    Component PB/CB/B - BNC

    Component Y/G - BNC

PC IN - DB-15 Female with Audio Mini-jack

    SERIAL - DB-9 Female

Looks like I will need to add a DVI card fofr HD if I want to use a Beosystem 3.

    Thoughts/ideas anyone?

    Thanks in advance!

    Al

That sounds like a very early BV4-50 which it may not be compatible with BS3 even with the DVI card

    Alex,

My Bv-4 is wall mounted and I can't see any serial numbers, etc.I know there is a way to check the panel type by using the Beo 4 thru menu functions, but I can't recall the button sequence, can you or anyone else here help with this?  I purchased my BV-4 in Aug 2006 prior to the BS 3 release.  I think I should be able to utilize the BS 3, but I want to be sure.

The reason I am suspect, is because after the system was installed, I was double checking my serial numbers, etc.numbers to what was on the receipt and I noticed some errors that my dealer could not explain making me think I purchased used or referbished equipment.  I don't think this is the case but it sure would not surprise me if B&O sold me an older panel with new skin!

Re: Beovision 4-50 Compatibility with Beosystem 3

    Okay... here we go....

    BeoVision 4-50 D7 after serial number 18363212
    BeoVision 4-50 D8 after serial number 19207508

as far as to check on your beosystem 1 i dont recall where it is exactly in the service menu but if you browse im sure you will find it. Just push MENU MENY 0 0 GO to access the service menu.

    Alex,

Thank you, Not sure my receipt shows a serial number as 18251481 so that puts me in the  pre-D7 range according to your post.  The menu lets you look at the monitor info and the serial numebr it lists relates to the BS 1.  Under TV there were several listings one indicating a "D6 2B" I think (it won't show that info now for some reason).  Is it reasonable to assume this may be a D6 panel and will not work with a BS 3 at all similar to ahoover?

Sounds like this could be the case but for an Aug 2006 purchase your panel sounds like it should be BS3 okay.

    Alex:

Thanks! My BV 4-50 is serial #17915309 so that sound like an early BV4. Is three an upgrade for DVI and the BV4 software/firmware?

    TIA,

This should help clear things up.

    BeoVision 4 50 MKIII type 8952, have been of generations D6, D7 and D8

BeoVision 4 50 D6 SN below 18363212 is not compatible with DVI and BeoSystem 3

BeoVision 4 50 D7 SN starting 18363212 is compatible with DVI and BeoSystem 3 after the product has been updated with PDP flash software.

BeoVision 4 50 D8 SN starting SN 19207548 is compatible with DVI and BeoSystem 3 and does not require PDP flash update.

So does this mean my BV-4-50 is not upgradable to the DVI interface?

    Thanks in advance,

Re: Beovision 4-50 Compatibility with Beosystem 3

How close is the BV4-50 D6 to the Panasonic equivalent commercial panel? Does it have the same plug in module slots in the back?

The only reason I ask is I have a D6 panel connected to a Beosystem 3 after I added a DVI board. Ok admittedly it isn't HD-Ready, but it works fine with the BS3 upscaling my SD sources and I guess the panel scaling back down. It didn't mean I needed to junk the panel until I was ready to buy a new one and still benefit from the audio processing with Beolabs.

    Max.

My B&O is in my Bio.

    Max,

I think you are correct, no need to get a new panel at all.  I have seen the BS 3 via the BV 9 and I think the picture improvement is minimal and not worth spending several thousand on at this time.  The main issue is connections which the BS 3 outperforms the BS 1, but again, not several thousand worth IMHO.

I see it as a very expensive tweak, not a must have. The BV 4 with the BS 1 produces a beautiful picture, superior even compared to many of the newest plasmas being offered today as the latest and greatest.  Non-HD TV looks terrible on all of them.
