    Guy's Line-Up

Well, Guy. Your wish is my command. That BeoVision 8 is fairly heavy with the floorstand, and I did have to disconnect the iMac for this shot, so let's hope you're satisfied! (To all wondering what this is all about: over in the Mac-section we've been discussing the iMac, and how its design language is B&Oish.) The new iMac is the first with aluminium, and incorporates a hard glass front in a recessed frame - certain elements lead one to think of the MCP6500, for instance. I'm certain both the iMac and the BV8 were in development at the same time, and that nobody copied the other. I'm very pleased with both.

My daughter's MacBook didn't make the line-up, she's away, but just imagine a black, 2001 Monolith type of object lying on the dark surface behind the Beo1. Why did I add the Beo1 - because I think it's a sample of design expression gone wrong, probably seemed like a nice idea when it was thought of, but it does stand out from the crowd.

The iMac and the BeoVision 8 are the two most beautiful computer screens in the world. The BV8 beats the iMac hands down on sound quality, and the iMac wins by dint of being a computer. Strangely, I find myself watching television on the iMac when I'm in the room it's in, and using the BeoVision 8 as a computer screen when I'm in the room that's in. There's no such thing as a television or a computer anymore, they're all multi-use screens in my opinion.

The Edge Dinovo keyboard is a find. Bluetooth enabled, 30-day charge, with an incorporated intelligent mousepad that allows scrolling.

Closer detail on keyboard, MCP6500 and the remotes. (Hmmm - I should have included a Beomaster 7000 in the shot - really rounds off the design inspirations).

Thanks for this post soundproof. I will be buying the new iMac in the next 2 weeks but I will be running Vista Ultimate off it mostly since I haven't got the time to start learning about the Mac GUI just yet. Its an interesting thought about colours and placement looking at your photos, especially since I am also going to buy a BeoVision 8 soon too. I was considering the white version along with a white iMac, but silver/aluminium would match the exisiting B&O equipment. Decisions, decisions...

I really wouldn't! Stick with Mac OS, you'll pick it up in no time at all. Wait a bit though, there are still quite a few bugs they need to iron out of Leopard.

You will learn the Mac interface and functions in two hours, and never look back. It's a promise.
And should you require any assistance, then just post your queries at the Mac forum or send a PM.

    Re: Guy's Line-Up

I'd agree. If my work didn't demand it, I'd use Leopard (OS X) for my day-to-day work, email, browsing and so on. Bought Leopard the other day and am impressed. A few bugs, yes, but nothing mission-critical here.

New iMac is fantastic. I have two that use Bootcamp to dual-boot in to Vista or OS X.

You've got plenty of Mac users here who can help you with things, installing Windows will be the only thing which keeps you using a PC. If you use OS X, you'll never look back (which is definitely a good thing).

Chris, why do you have to use Vista?

Simon, you really don't need time to "learn" to use the Mac OS, as it really is very intuitive. I switched two months ago, use my Mac every day, but I have never held in hand a user manual. Forget Vista!

    Hi,

    Thanks for posting this !
Congratulation for your nice set-up, plus 1 for your set of BL5.
It looks really homogeneous, as all your items where made to fit each others.
MCP6500 looks pretty close to the dinovo in term of design... Logitech had a look on this one before they launched the new dinovo ?

BV8 looks great close to your iMac. Aluminum adds this elegant touch to your set-up.

    NICE.

    Hi Simon,
As some said before, you will get accustomized with Mac in a very short time.
In my case, it was intuitive and easy to use, like B&O...
No need to learn of study those Mac manuals, that still remain unopened...
I won't go back to MS.

    Re: Guy's Line-Up

That's one of the things that amazed me with Macs. Setting up a printer is (almost always) like plugging in a lamp, connect it and 'it just works'. There are very few printers which don't seem to work like this and require that you download drivers from the 'net.

    GuyHui :

Hope it helps in your decision making. Should point out that these items don't usually go together. The iMac is in one room, and the BV8 is in my den, together with a Beosystem 6500. The MCP6500 is now strictly for show - it's fully functional, but with the BV8/Beosystem6500 set up together, and the Beosys in Option 0, the MCP doesn't do much. (Unless someone has a tip?)

I think Jacob Jensen's use of black and metal (aluminium brushed or polished) has influenced a lot of designers.
