Remote Buddy on iPod Touch - simply phenomenal

Words are unnecessary. Watch the video. Clik the video link on the far right, under the iPod.

    Hi Guzzler,

You have to go into the Preferences folder of Remote Buddy.
There you'll find a button that says AJAX. Follow the instructions - it lists the URL for Bonjour and you just create a web page in Safari on your Touch.

Given that iPhones have now gone on sale in the UK, you might want to consider using one? It has the same functionality together with Remote Buddy.

The iPod Touch and iPhone both have wi-fi, and it's through wi-fi integration that you get the playback control described above.

To control hardware you need to translate these commands into hardware control packets. At the moment, the people behind iRed are working out some Leopard challenges, they estimate being ready by January with iRed 2.0 which will deliver the same B&O and non-B&O hardware control that users of iRed 1.x have enjoyed.

You'll need one of the irTrans converters (hardware) and iRed 2.0 -- you'll then be able to control hardware. (Do a search here, there are a number of members who are using irTrans now.)

i bought an ipod touch ( on peter's reccomednation )

must say , it's a staggering bit of kit - particularly the remote buddy implementation - extremely impressive  !

no doubt by v.2 they'll be on a par with eyetv and elgato , knowing how rough around the edges that was originally and now how superb it is

Very flattering but it was Soundproof who brought this device to our attention! And many thanks for that! Once the IR trans is ready for Leopard, I may well change to the iPod as a remote. Afraid to say it, but it rather trumps the Beo5. Especially for computer stored music.

Made a nice little discovery tonight. Was watching a DVD-movie, using DVD-Player. Wanted to check how much was left and used Remote Button instead of the Music Button on the Touch.

The Remote Buddy then sends a control display to Touch according to which application is the front one on the Mac, in this case DVD-Player.

Then I clicked the blue arrow at the top, which opens the screen display window, this can transfer the screen image to the Touch.

I then pressed the CAMERA symbol - and surprise: I got a live image of the movie, transferred to my Touch. I can now move the cursor around on the screen - and the arrow symbols at the bottom help me do clicks and even command-clicks!

    Nice

Also used it to keep tabs on a tv program I was going to watch, while in another room. (Using EyeTV).

    Outstanding.

I was thinking to get an Ipod Touch, but this is one more reason to go and get that "device".

Meantime, does the Remote buddy work fine on an iPhone ?

This Remote Buddy sounds absolutely brilliant!

Thanks, one last reason why I will get a friend (iPhone) for my lonely iMac Alu 24'.

Things seem easy, practical, intuitive and really enjoyable with this RBuddy.

May I be wrong, but can I use my own icons previoulsly made with Photoshop CS3,  with RBuddy ?

    Guy

P.S : Andy, I will let the members of this forum to answer to your question.
