    Mac OS Leopard...

...was officially announced to be launched on october 26. I really am looking forward to it, but I think I will wait a couple of months before doing the upgrade, so some bugs will be resolved. Any thoughts?

Oh yes, I have long since learned not to plunk a new major upgrade from Apple into my computer. I spent two months fixing mail problems (of all things) on the Apple support site when OSX was introduced. But I'm also looking forward to it -- though I hope my third-party software will work without any hitches when I upgrade. Apple's had a tendency to lock out other software, which is dumb ...

I have been using a Beta version, and in term of features, it is a very good upgrade.

Quicklook, Coverflow and the new much improved Spotlight are fantastic, especially when used together. As always with Apple, new advanced features are immediately useable, by a 4 year old - it is not about making the system even more difficult to use by adding more obscure menus...

As with any upgrade, I would suggest you wait for the 1st bug fixes (10.5.1 or 2) before you upgrade if you rely on your Mac for important tasks.

I will upgrade when the patch for Mail is released to collect my Hotmail.

    Re: Mac OS Leopard...

I'm going to hold off for as long as possible. I absolutely LOVE my G5, and I have heard that Leopard is slightly slower on nonIntel Machines even though it's universal.

As others have said I'll wait a few months before considering it.

From what I have read there's not much to speak about when talking about under the hood improvements. Many are merely aesthetic and superficially engaging.

Needless to say, this is the first time I'm NOT going to be an Apple Early Adopter.

    Re: Mac OS Leopard...

The speed gains are much larger on Intel machines, but the PowerPCs will also see a speed increase, as normal with newer versions of OS X.

I've been using a beta version of an external HDD on my MBP, and it's very good. I have two gripes though:
They've replaced the arrows under dock icons with horrible little glowing lights, which I just don't like at all. They look really naff IMO. The Dock separator, which is just a gap in Tiger and now resembles a zebra crossing also looks silly.
The new close, zoom and minimize buttons look odd IMO. I think they've slightly overdone them.

Other than that, I can't wait for Leopard. I'll wait till .1 or .2 before I switch. I need Logic and Reason to be incredibly reliable before I make the move.
