Are there two different SP12/12A cartridges?

    Hey guys,

I recently picked up a new SP12 on ebay, and it's in a plain plastic b&o package.  I've seen some others on ebay though that are packaged much more nicely, with a plastic lid.  Also, the actual cartridge on these has what looks like a little metal extension on the back, maybe just to offer a finger grip to lift it?  Does anyone know what the differences between these is?

     Here's the one I got:

Here's the nicer looking boxed one:

    Thanks for any help guys,

    Austin

Yes! The actual stylus in the same but one is designed for use in Beograms - I think it is the A model and the other for other makes of deck. These come with a 1/2" mounting which can bolt to a normal head shell. The styluses when purchased alone came in a plastic bubble card and the later cartridges with stylus came in a plastic box. The earlier cartridges actually came in a beautiful rosewood box - all dove tailed joints etc! My old dealer told me how they just used to throw these away! I have a couple - I think I sent Martin one as they seemed to be more common in the UK for some reason!
