    Beogram 8000 issues

I was gifted with a Beogram 8000 that performs well with two exceptions. When play is pressed there is a deep groan as the platter begins to turn. Ditto when changing speeds from 33 rpm to 45 rpm. There is also a groan when the turntable turns off.

Also when pressing fast forward or fast reverse the tonearm does not pick up first and drags the stylus across the record.

When stop is pressed the arm picks up correctly.

Now if I remember to press pause, the tonearm lifts and the fast forward/reverse is not an issue.

So are these serious problems or a few needed adjustments?

    Jeff

    Re: Beogram 8000 issues

First thing would be to grab a capacitor kit, replace the lot and check for bad solders on the main circuit board while in there. Aging capacitors are causing the strangest faults in these wonderful machines and I've even seen some capacitors having blown themselves to pieces.

If the speed is irregular check the condition of the tachodisc under the subplatter.
