I hoped that the investors presentation gave us the same pictures of the news products that was included in the presentation given to us friday in Struer. In this presentation a picture of BS5 was present.

Roger do you have some price indication?

    It´s not magic - it´s Bang & Olufsen

I am 100% sure but I can test it if you want. I have not Apple-Tv but frontrow on my Macbook pro
    I´ll come back...

Please do so ... I am sure there are some B&O-owners who are interested in whether or not the Apple TV (or FrontRow) can be FULLY controlled by a Beo5. Everything except smooth scrolling can be controlled - that's for sure, but having long play-lists smooth, rapid scroll is a must. This has previously not been possible with B&O remotes (except with Keersemeekers special superhack).

A lot of people including me want AppleTV to be a success especially since I have one.  However I don't use it very much because I have only purchased a few movies on iTunes and ripping DVDs is tedious.  I think AppleTV may be a success if you can download rented movies in HD.  Its sounds to me the film industry wants everyone to buy DVDs well into the foreseeable future.

Is Beosound 5 a media controller?  Will I have to replace my Beomedia 1?  Is the design of the Beosound 5 something we are all going to lust for?  I hope someone can answer my questions without saying what it really is.  That would ruin the suspense and the months of talking about Beosound 5.

Quote "You will also see in coming Bang & Olufsen products the continuity of the ‘wheel’ and as you browse through the album covers on the screen (of the Serenata), you will see it expanded upon more in Bang & Olufsen products of the future" Torben Ballegaard Sørensen. I thought as much. nlb.

Quote "Around 10 years ago, something like 80% of our products were a mechanically based ‘experience’ such as the clamper etc, but in the future it will be around 40-50% will be software / user interface based. So, therefore we started IdeaLab and made it a separate software design area so it could not be dominated by the old mechanical guys. And now, with the new BeoSound 5 that is coming in the spring, the new idea is lifting up our competences in the software side to match the mechanical side. So, both are still dominant – and I think that forever we will be in the ‘physical world’ and there will be a mechanical expression of the product. If we sacrifice that, we just become another software company" Torben Ballegaard Sørensen. B&o MUST also make the GUI software ‘experience’ magical. Then B&O will not become just another software house. nlb.

Quote "Well, when the CD disappears, which it will do, we need to create similar or even stronger experiences that may not be mechanical alone, but the BeoSound 5 which I cannot talk about too much at this point will be the first of some of the stepping stones to future technology. It is a radical new way interacting, and this is our ambition" NICE and about time too. Lets hope it's not all too late! Time to market these days is very different to what it was 25 years ago!! nlb.

Very interesting hints.  I also believe that CDs will disappear maybe sooner than we think.  I have already downloaded music from Amazon.  The sound is good and DRM free.  However I hope Mr.Sørensen does not think people are going to purchase 256 kb MP3 music to be played through Beolab 5's.

    Dear All:

It sounds as though the BeoSound 5 will be a combination of player and 'moveable' interface.  Will it have wifi as a wireless system?  Will it have SACD?

It is interesting that BV 7 can play DivX and and not SACD.  I think there are plenty of B&O buyers/fans who would welcomed SACD into the mix.

It could take the shape of the BC in a smaller form.  It would be nice if we got a nice CD, SACD player, etc.  Imagine a solid player with great mechanisms e.g., little to no vibrations, revised algorhytms.

It will come out in 2008, sometime in 2008,

So... it is nice if the Beosound5 has a large screen and display album covers...

But it is not optimum to use from your sofa... so I am wondering if it can be a video source for the TV, to display menus like the Beomedia, and it could also be used from link rooms.

As I imagine it will be based on a laptop computer architecture (a large LCD screen, a HD, Network interfaces...)... I am wondering if you'll be able to plug the Beo5 on it and it will download to the remote all the Playlist and album art.

I don't think that the actual Beo5 version can do that, because this beo5 could be already doing the same just now with Beoplayer and the NMusic collection... but unfortunately it's not the case Sad the device has not been designed for that purpose, and it has not the hardware necessary to achieve this feature.

Maybe with a Beo5 markII... or with a brand new Beo6...who knows!! Smile

Way I see it is that the Beo5 has the ability to become two way compatible? at a later date?

Beo5 and BS5 combo of a multimedia and advanced userface is what jumps to my mind at the moment.. does this justify a cost of >£10k? it would have to be damn special..

Lack of mechanical features may possibly mean that size is drastically reduced to something small?

I see a small black tablet ala BS4 with a touchscreen LCD that is controlled via Beo5? and a small silver wheel that maybe the only mechanical feature?

Also, I now feel that a CD drive will not be a feature in the BS5... if so, its a very very ambitious statement that B&O are making about the future and to the market... moreso that there is growing sentiment for a return to LP but on the back of it its good to see B&O going back to being a pioneer instead of just playing it safe which it has done for a very long time.

I am not saying that the songs themselfes should be on the remote, but just the list of songs, with album art.

It can display lists of channels and logos, so why not...

It has a USB plug, so you could connect it that way on the BS5 and it would charge it and update the list of songs and logo.

Beomedia could do the same. Everything is a matter of software, but in term of hardware both the beomedia, beoport, Beo5 could do it.

Some people (who can go very often to their dealer ;-) ) have done a similar thing, bu manually.

TWG.  You are right.  Other companies like Microsoft and Apple are working on this also.  The Beosound 5 will have to be a really compelling design and not too expensive.
