>>http://www.sonos.com/products/controller/features.htm<< So it might just be not more then this. That of course wouldn't be 20K regardless how they spin it. If they have a high end CD drive and components in the base unit, and maybe translucent aluminum used in it who know ... Could it be that the BS5 is just a replacement for the BS3200? Which I think is a product that needs to go not so much based on looks but based on usability. Can it be that at a later point they bring the high end audio system? Remember that very long time back we had the thread that talked about how they have 2 groups within B&O, one thinks they should move towards computer based audio while the other believes in classic design and function like you have on the BS9000, retaining the magic. Maybe they do go both ways ......
BS9000, BS2300, BC2, BL2500, BL3, Bl2, BS1, BV8, BC4, A8

Alex: Don't jump to conclusions Henry! We still aren't sure exactly what this 'digital media' concept is going to be about. It may not be a replacement for a CD player, so don't assume it should have one.
Oh right. I had understood the BeoSound 5 was going to become B&O's flagship music system, is this right? If it is a correct assumption, I certainly believe there should be a CD drive in the BeoSound 5, no question about it. Whether you add an internal hard drive into it just like the current BeoSound 3200 offers, that's fine to be optional for me personally, because I much prefer CD as a way of playing my music than a music computer file, and also due to the beauty of design that B&O have so perfectly been able to achieve, with thanks to the CD over the past 15 years or so - Ouverture, BS9000, BC2 etc. If it isn't going to be a music system that doesn't have a CD drive either, then I have to admit I don't understand what it is.

I was hoping that the Bs5 will allow to store & play videos... Nowadays, separating video & audio systems is a thing of the past... But maybe B&O will surprise us with a truly wonderfull product, it's just what I hope. What I want now is just that Apple release a firmware update for the iPhone touch and iPhone that will allow us to play music from those products through my B&O speakers with Airport Express : it will just be the perfect multiroom audio solution ever made (just wait for more memory inside the iPod Touch : 32Gb would be a great start for me, the more is the better if you are using lossless audio)!

Petz thanks for giving a more precise description of BS5! I have only seen a picture and a little video. Shareholders like me are often not given much information. My dealer is going to Berlin next week to see the new products. Like your dealer he often tells me a lot after seeing the news. I will of course post more info.
It´s not magic - it´s Bang & Olufsen

To be fair to the old site: The original concept of this product (aka AV1 / BeoCenter 5 / BeoSound 5) was dropped when the management told them to merge the BeoMedia 1 with a "conventional" audio product. They plan on releasing it in March next year. I still find it stunning, but I do belive that they should have done more with the AV1-concept - dropping it for a change in demand / fashion is fair, but I would still love to see this uber-audio-device launched. And perhaps they will. Their next line of big-screen-tv's will be brave, so why not follow up with an audio system that will match? Roger

Interesting info! AV1 / BeoCenter 5 / BeoSound 5 dropped! Does this also mean that the price dropped? Is this new product instead the BeoMedia 2 ? I agree that a high-end audio-extension of the BeoSound 9000 would be exciting ... with intelligent aluminum and stuff But there is also a need for an updated BeoMedia! /M

Roger:... The actual BeoSound 5 about to be released is a BeoMedia 1 that you can put on display (compared to the current one, not to be found in MoMA ). ... Roger
Exciting! Now it starts to sound like an AudioVideo-product instead of an Audio-only-product. /M

Maybe it will be called Beo System 5? Or Beo Centre 5?

mbee:I was hoping that the Bs5 will allow to store & play videos...
In fairness, this is possible with the forthcoming 802.11n standard. There's no reason that this couldn't be a controller and AV management box that processed and stored the incoming AV content and then enabled you to distribute through your house. However....I could simply buy a cheap brand new £799 iMac and do the same thing, apart from masterlink connections. But are these so important in 2008, when you could just stream your AV content?

The AppleTV has not "taken off" yet ... but there is no reason to believe that it will not. Beosystem 3 can control it (almost). It's just the fast scrolling that is missing. Once this is fixed, you could have your AppleTV in a cupboard and pretend that you have a modern B&O-AV-solution . But of course this is what BeoSound 5 (= BeoMedia 5?) is all about ... or?? /Munin

Beofan2:No the name is BeoSound 5, we were told by TBS friday at the general meeting.
Well, BeoMedia 5 was just a play with words. The name doesn't really matter. What matters is if this new product will be a development of the BeoMedia 1 or the BeoSound 5. Roger hinted at the former possibility. /M

Is this true?? If so it is a breakthrough!!! This has been discussed over and over here. Using lintronic+salling clicker+applescript Keersmaekers succeded in making Beo4 controlling smooth scroll of FrontRow on the MacMini. Are you saying that Beo5 makes scrolling of long lists smooth on the AppleTV? So much struggle I had to implement the LIntronic solution that I think I have to see this before believing it. /Munin

....mr anders(son):I am 100% sure but I can test it if you want. I have not Apple-Tv but frontrow on my Macbook pro I´ll come back... Please do so ... I am sure there are some B&O-owners who are interested in whether or not the Apple TV (or FrontRow) can be FULLY controlled by a Beo5. Everything except smooth scrolling can be controlled - that's for sure, but having long play-lists smooth, rapid scroll is a must. This has previously not been possible with B&O remotes (except with Keersemeekers special superhack). /M
