Hello,

I bought a second life BeoPort (without IR eye) some time ago and want to connect it through ML to my Beocenter 2 and Beovision 3. I've installed the Beoport software on a Windows Vista (32bit) computer. When I look at the sources available I can see all the sources which are connected through the MasterLink (e.g. TV, DVD, Radio, etc). When I press one of the sources like radio or N.music, nothing happens. I can't understand why this does not work, I've installed everything correctly (?).... The Beovision is programmed as V.Option 2, the Beocenter 2 is programmed as A.Option 0, the Beoport is programmed as Option 6. Option 0 for the Beoport does not change anything and does not work.

I've attached some screendumps about the available sources and so on. Can someone please explain to me what I'm missing or why it does not work.

What speakers do you have attached to the Beoport?

Thanks for your reply. I've a couple of Beolab 8000 and a couple of Beolab 4000 attached to the Beovision 3 (DTS Module). No speakers are attached to the Beoport.

Is the Beoport in the same room? By having it connected to the ML system in option 6, I had imagined that you had it in a separate room and that you wanted to access the sources from that room.

What exactly do you want it to be able to do. I will look up the option setting when I get home for you tonight but a list of the connections and options you have already would be helpful.

The Beoport is in the same room. I want to be able to play N.Music and N.Radio through the Beoport on my Beocenter 2. So the connections are as followed :

• I've a ML cable from the BV3 connected through a junction Box to the BC2 and the Beoport. I've tested the ML cable on all ends and it functions correctly.
• The Speakers are connected to the BV3 
• The BV3 is programmed as V.Option 2
• The BC2 is programmed as A.Option 0
• The Beoport is programmed as Option 6
• Steps taken :
• Added N.Music and N.Radio to the BC2 (list options)
• I've disconnected everything from the mains
• Disconnected the ML cables
• Connected everything again to the mains
• Programmed the options for each
• Disconnected all again from the mains
• Connected the ML cables
• Connected again to the mains first the BV3, second the BC2 and third the Beoport
• When I press N.Music (or N.Radio) on either the Beoport or Beo4 (BC2) I can not see anything happening. Only N.Radio starts playing on the computer.

If the Beoport is in the same room as the TV and BC2, simply remove the IR eye and use the beo4 through the TV.

The on-screen remote control only controls speakers that are connected directly to the Beoport.

 of course, if you start N.MUSIC with the Beo4 and then use the local virtual remote on the right of the screen you can then change song, etc...

What connections have you from the computer to the Beoport? You should have a USB and a jack plug from the audio output on the computer to the Beoport. Check it is in the correct output on the computer.I take it that the software loaded properly ( I imagine it did as the sources are listed on Beoplayer).

I've rechecked the computer connections. Audio in on the Beoport is connected to the audio output on the computer. USB is also connected properly. I thought that everything should be installed correctly as you say, because all the sources are shown in the source list. I also did a clean install of Windows Vista yesterday and after that the installation of the Beoport software.

I can play N.Radio on my computer, as far as I understand when I start N.Radio on the BC2 it should also play the same sounds that are played on the computer and it should also be possible to use the on-screen remote to control the BC2. Should it also not be possible to control the DVD/TV/.. sources with the onscreen remote (except the volume control) ? This does not (yet) work in my case.

You won't be able to control the other sources from Beoplayer except on the computer. This is so you can use one source on the computer whilst someone else could be watching TV etc otherwise you would break into their program. If you were using the same source, you will have some control though. (I have read this and it comes across incorrectly! You can control external sources via Beoplayer but this may not be seen at the source itself. For instance, playing CD will play the CD but will not switch on the speakers of the AV system. It would be expecting to use speakers attached to the Beoport. You may notice that there is a black sticker on the Beoport. Take this off and you will find another jack socket marked OUT. Run a jack from this to the audio in on the computer and you can use the speakers attached to teh computer.)

I don't understand why you don't get any output of N.Radio or N.Music though. Have you tried the headphone socket on the Beoport to see if it is getting that far?

I can hear the audio on the computer through another jacket connected to the soundcard. That jacket goes to the computer speakers (Non B&O [:'(])

When I connect the A8 Earphones to the headphone socket on the Beoport I can hear the music through the earphones. So it is getting that far....

After more experimenting it looks like the USB port on the Beoport is instable. I'm going to bring the Beoport back to the seller and trie to find some other solution of streaming the audio to the B&O. Thanks for the help.

Sounds very strange - clearly it is working to an extent but not fully. I wonder if it is a faulty unit. I actually had problems with mine initially but that was a different type of problem. The product is a good one when it works and not even that expensive for what you get in my opinion. Sorry I cannot be more helpful.

Have you done a firmware upgrade on the Beoport, using Beoplayer?

Yes, I've tried the firmware upgrade. Get the message that no upgrade is needed, everything is up to date.

I think there are some things mixed in the explanation of the Beoport.

- The audio sources from the main source (Beovision) can be controlled with the Beoport. This can be done because it is no multiroom system. Only one source and if you swith the radio channel or cd it is also done in the main room. The radio or cd sound can only be heard from the Beoport if there are the loudspeakers connected to. The sound is not going into the PC. It ends at the Beoport. I read that there is a hidden minijack connector and one can connect the PC loudspeakers there but I am not sure about this. I haven't tried this up to now.

- The video sources are only distributed with the system modulator. You need a tv cable to your PC and a tv card inside. I have experienced when you don't have a tv card you can't switch to tv/dvd/... the Beoport is switching back to PC.

- For this sources you control on your PC the sources for your PC. But when e.g. the CD is on in the main room it has also effects to the main room.

- N.MUSIC/N.RADIO: First you have to set the settings right at the PC. For N.MUSIC you have to scan the directories for your music. After this is done you can control these sources on your PC and with supported devices (Beosound 3000 / Beosound 3200 / ...) in the main room. And if you hear N.MUSIC in the main room (and at the PC) you can control the N.MUSIC for both locations.
