hi folks,
i'm having a strange intermittent problem with the volume controls on my BM1900-1. Basically one day i turned it on and the valume started at the preset normal level but then instantly started decreasing to zero. this happens regardless of whether tape/phono/radio is selected.
I turned the unit off and then back on and the same happened. i left it overnight and in the morning it was fine, unfortunately a couple of days later it started doing it every time it was turned on.
this started around 2 years ago - at the time i took the beomaster and wiring diagrams to the local tv repair shop (he had a lot of vintage radios in the window and i also noticed a Beo-Ouverture in the shop so i thought he'd do a decent enough job of fixing it.
After 2 months of it in the shop he returned it to me still not repaired claiming he could not understand what was wrong with it. In the mean time i had bought a new beomaster 3300 (subsequenty replaced by my BC8500) - the 1900 was then put away in a box for around a year until i moved house.
whilst unpacking after the move i plugged it in and amazingly everything seemed to be working perfectly. this continued for weeks and so i bought a pair of CX50's for it and set it up in my study.
one night whilst the speakers were unplugged i had turned up the volume to maximum on the unit, the volume display reached the maximum and then cut straight back to zero. i turned the unit off and back on again and guess what..... the fading volume problem had started again.
I really like my 1900 as it was the first B&O i bought - i don't really want to have it sent off for weeks again to another repair shop only for them to scratch their heads as to the problem!
has anyone here had a similar problem and is there an easy fix? all the functions on the system appear to be working perfectly it is just the volume continually decreasing that is the problem.
