I may be gone for some time! By Andy T.

My wretched computer gave up completely this morning.
I am writing this on a neighbours computer (Windows 98 I think)
Hope I'm back in time for Peters and Lee quiz (No adobe on here I don't think)
Seriously hope I'm back in time to put the first Beo5 photo's on here!
You may talk about me in my absence.
Peter, I will send you a PM.
Ed, I will be coming to Holland on that weekend still have to sort out details I will phone you
    Puncher, Good luck!
Hope I don't get cold turkey!!

Andy, Alex is right, you should go for a Mac. it is much simpler to use!

    Get a Mac Andy!

When i'm on my PC, it works extremely well and does it's job perfectly - but i live in fear of it breaking down.  With my Mac (we have exactly the same machine Tom!) i don't even think about crashing or freezing.

It's a bit like driving an Alfa Romeo and a Lexus.  Both great, but you just know one of them is going to work every single time.

Look forward to having you back Andy!

Oh no!............. The last bloke that said that was never seen again (please come back Captain Andy - who else will respond to my drivel)??

If you do get a Mac please promise you won't drone on about it incessitantlyBig Smile - just think what the world would be like if the remaining 95% of computer users filled up forums telling others how great their computers were - there'd be no space for sock related postsLaughingLaughing

    What's all this about Macs?

PCs are just fine. I should know, we have six of them. Of course, they constantly need care and a bit of work here and there, but that's really the solution. Don't get a Mac, get six PCs instead. You'll probably have at least one of  them in working order.

(Actually all of our computers are working fine. At least since I reinstalled MythTV on the HTPC, and replaced the motherboard, CPU and memory in my son's computer. Twice.)

Linux is a server OS, never used a Linux distribution which actually compares Windows or OS X as a user's OS.

Macs are just getting better and better all the time, the nearest thing behind OS X is Windows, which I would say is around 5 years behind OS X in terms of list-able functions, and around 10 years behind in terms of actual functionality.

My mate Andy will be positively vibrating with frustration if he knows the sad announcement of his temporary incapacitation has degenerated into yet another Mac discussionLaughing

Correct, although that doesn't really make much difference to the user other than the fact that they're both far more reliable than Windows (which isn't based on UNIX). OS X's GUI is far better designed than any other I've used, and uses less resources too.

    Party!!!Party!!!  I'm back! Party!!!Party!!!

Thankyou for your kind comments. I'm sure you want to know what I ended up with.
Well I'm sorry to dissapoint all you avid Mac fans but finances don't allow for a new computer. Heavens, I have to pull out #350 tomorrow for my Beo5, then I'm off to see my mate Ed in holland in October, then I have the Beoworld Xmas party!
So I ended up buying a new hard disc for my PC and downloading a whole new Windows XP on it.
Still got a lot of glitches to sort out yet, but at least I'm online. Perhaps someone will help me out later, when I post questions on the PC forum.
Hey, it's great to be back!

    Poor me, never win owt!
