James, After taking a look at the links, I think the design of the Grundig is somewhat over the top, but tasteful. It seems to be a television which may be suited in a hotel lobby, or in a public space rather than someone's home. Is there a function to the sliver at the bottom of the television? Why is it sharp? The Loewes on the other hand I think are a great departure from the minimal aesthetic, there is no reference to flowers, or anything instantly recognizable. I do like the design, it is minimal and remains industrial. But you're right in that I think that far too many products think that they need to add some muster to a minimal design becuase they don't know the balance between minimalism and aesthetic appeal. I thought the Beovision 5 struck that balance very well. The BV 9 loses something in the central acoustic lens as well as the curved frame. The BV8's design is totally lost on me. The Avant had a "gothic" sensibility about it. It wasn't minimal, it was robust with fine straight gravity-defying lines. -Sal

Oh! I was there last Sunday, it was a huge show in Berlin. No B&O stand though. The Grundig TV was very nice, except the "flower" thing, very disturbing as it "interfere" with the TV's picture. The Loewe booth was amazing and huge, lots of VERY nice TVs, etc... If B&O did not exist I'd by Loewe...

Hi wtlc2zpx, Sorrry about the delay in reading but I just saw you were at the show in Berlin, I could not make it, but heard that the new Loewe connect LCD coming out in January won the best newcomer award at the show, I noticed you were at the loewe stand and was wondering if you saw it first hand. I registered on the Loewe UK web site and have had the Connect brochure sent out and it looks amazing. Did they demo the linkable capability to PC content through wi-fi or through the home ring main. Anyway if you could let me know your thoughts it would be appreciated, we get the reports back from the Loewe members of staff who were there but it would be good to hear from a customer. Kindest Regards Wilson

The Grundig looks daft - imagining watching something like Die Hard surrounded by flowers! The white Loewe with the pattern falls into the same trap IMHO of having too specific a theme. I don't personally like the red one but I don't like red BV7s either. In black or silver , this could work. I take it that the squashed bee hive is a speaker? Agree with the above opinion - the only flat screen I really like is the BV5 - the BV9 lens spoils things and the BV8 would just attract dust to the shelf.

In their very own way, these TVs look good and interesting. I think that people that like B&O won't like the Grundig, and the other way around. B&O could be to cold and to clean for their taste...

Have you seen the LCD TV's from NAD made by a Danish company Viewnet http://www.viewnet.dk/ These are made from aluminium and the 32inch version costs about € 4000.- You can control these TV's with a Beolink1000 or a Beo4

If B&o did not exist i would choose Grundig Fine Arts 76 30" model if someone remember..It had lots of glass and ALU in the chassis. Or Nad 40" with Pixelworks processing of the picture and inbuilt amplifier Class-D. http://demo.preemtech.fi/grundig-fine-arts-76/product_details.php/products_id/96 I think BV5 are the best looking design item B&O have ever made! Its look´s like an big painting or a mirror with a solid ALU-frame that surrounds it.. Slightly resting against the wall.. I visualize the BV5 in Dark Grey.. Then it´s perfect! I don't think BV9 looks good because of the bending frame and the squareness.. The BV5 looks more High End than BV 9 does..!

If B&O didn't exsist, then neither would most of Grundigs designs. It shocks me everytime to see that Grundig continue to copy B&O design cues. That TV on the first post link, is so very B&O, look at the stand - yeesh! Who cares about non-B&O TV's, i don't. There is no comparison. End of story. On another note, I certainly hope that B&O realise their high achievement on the BV5 design, and one day somehow bring back this design. It had the potential to be as individual and timeless as BL8000. Please B&O do us & yourselves a favour, and try to remedy the BV9's messy design.

What's GRUNDIG these days? Grundig AG declared bankruptcy in 2003, selling its satellite equipment division to Thomson. In 2004, England's Alba plc and Turkey's Beko Elektronik jointly took over Grundig Home InterMedia System (HIS), Grundig's consumer electronics division.
Currently, the British Alba/Beko consortium retain control of Grundig, although in the United States, products marketed under the Grundig brand are manufactured by the Eton Corporation (formerly Lextronix), based in Palo Alto, California. Vitelcom of Spain are also licensed to manufacture mobile telephones using the Grundig Mobile brand. Also, the auto parts company Delphi now manufactures car radios under the Grundig name.

Ofcourse I must comment this I had BV5 before my BV7-40 and now I have BV9 And that because I miss my BV5, but BV5 was outdated when it comes to connections I thought BV5 was the most beautiful TV in the world and still is BUT BV9 has drivin by and made it complete. BV9 is more proportional designed. Screen is 2/3 of the whole set and that is perpect design (proportional) And if you have seen it in real you know what i mean Just my opinion

Screw the TV, that Grundig sub looks cool.

While I enjoy reading your other posts, this comment is so biased and fan-boyish that I choked on my orange juice. It is entirely possible that one day B&O won't make the best stuff... Especially with the way technology goes, they can be left in the dust mighty fast.

Agree completely that the BV9 is a better TV. Would possibly also agree about the screen proportion and the connections are in a different league. I prefer the size of the BV5 though and the stereo speakers and no ALT. Also like the fact that an HD BV5 is almost at the price level I would consider!!

Fair enough, but it's the competition from other companies that drive our favorites to stay on top. I'm a huge Mac fan boy but I know that sometimes they make crap. And also I know that other companies make good laptops. Even though I'd never buy one, I like to see what else is out there in hopes that when something better is built, the it will push Apple to build something even better.
Same with B&O. The best thing that can happen is Loewe builds something that kicks a lot of butt... because then B&O will be forced to raise their game.
TheTinman:While I am a big B&O fan, I like clean designs, period. For instance, here's something from Revox. http://www.revox.ch/index.tpl?iid=l249a1b10c2d6e3f67g4h107i&lang=1&iid2=11
Hawt. And matches my furniture... Too bad the table stand is seperate...

"The white Loewe with the pattern falls into the same trap IMHO of having too specific a theme." - All dealers will remember the standard issue Beovision 1 in yellow for display purposes! They tend to do this to catch peoples attention, our BV1 in yellow hung around for ageees until someone bought it and changed the colour, The older dealers will also remember the AV5 in the lovely orangy brown? I got through the prelim brochure on the connect from the Loewe web site and the fully loadedness (new word) of it looks amazing, granted if you have a tunnel vision towards B&o TV's then its not for you as some comments have said, but its at least worth a check out. In my opinion. Wilson

Hi Peter, Really?.........the orange AV5 in demand? In my ten years with B&o I never thought I would ever hear that! ;) Loewe do have a Loewe feel to them and Bang & olufsen has a bang & olufsen feel to it too, tends to be each to their own.................. Still flat out on the floor hearing that AV5's in Orange are in vogue! I wish I had a time machine. AV5 was a great sounding TV and our engineer alwasy maintains even now that it was the best sounding TV B&o made, but orange? Hahh

I think it is a good thing that more and more brand are now making more effort in the design despite of our tastes are; after all, it is a part of furniture when it is not turned on. Bang & Olufsen does have the vision, but they are not for the many people. I like most of the design from Bang & Olufsen, the level of details you can find is a lot....which you normally don't find in other brands. The technology evolves so fast..lots of new ideas....here is another one I saw lately, this is something I will buy...(I don't get the chance to buy BV7 which I like a lot, only B&O PLASMA is available in my country) http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/04/sharps-52-inch-pop-up-tv-kiss-your-wife-goodbye/
