    Beocenter 2200

An acquaintance of mine recently gave me a Beocenter 2200.  I'm trying to assess the condition other than by visual inspection and would like to connect 2 speakers, but it appears that the connection for the Beocenter may be a proprietary type of connector.  Can anyone help?

Not a bad little music center but will probably need the belts replacing on the cassette deck soon if not now. Not a difficult task for anyone with decent DIY skills.

Other thing to be careful of is the cartridge/stylus. If it is in good condition then leave it where it is - don't be tempted to remove it for cleaning unless absolutely necessary as doing this can cause the 4 pins to lose contact with the inner coils and render it useless. A very expensive item to replace.

The BC2200 can be improved no end by using the right speakers and you can also connect a CD player via the tape 2 socket which is on the front lower edge.

The speaker plugs needed are standard 2-pin DIN.
Actually the only industry standard speaker plug ever produced.

Medogsfat, thank you for the information, can you expand on "by using the right speakers"?  Is there a preference for 4 or 8 Ohm?  Or would you recommend B&O speakers vs. any otehr 4 or 8 Ohm?

    Re: Beocenter 2200

What Chris means, I think, is that many Beocenter 2200's
were originally sold together with some X-type speakers and
it would easily pull larger and much better speakers and at
the same time give much better results.

It's a japanese hybrid (IC) amplifier construction so, soundwise,
probably can't be compared directly to the older
B&O DC-coupled ones but given good speakers it will
perform quite well and does actually pack a fairly good punch.

4 or 8 ohms is not really that important as long as you only have one pair of speakers connected.

    Re: Beocenter 2200

Thanks Martin, that's exactly what I meant.

I once owned a BC2200 which came with X35 speakers which were OK but no more. When I connected some B&O redline RL60.2's the sound improved 10 fold. They were also a much better cosmetic match IMO and are relatively cheap to obtain..

You don't necessarily need to use B&O speakers as there are lots of other great makes out there but I can only comment from my own experience.

EDIT- nearly forgot the important bit!Surprise. When you are wiring up the 2 pin DIN speaker plugs the positive side of the wire should be connected to the small round pole and the negative side to the flat spade.
