    Re: Beogram 4002/Beosystem 4500 compatibility

Hi jjihonor and welcome to Beoworld.Wink

You cannot connect the Beogram 4002 directly to your Beomaster 4500 due to a lack of RIAA (pre-amp) in this model of turntable. You can however connect it using an external RIAA fitted between the Beogram and your Beomaster. The problem with doing this though is you will lose the remote control capability and a couple of DIN/RCA (phono) adaptor leads are usually needed. Worth doing though as the 4002 is amongst the most highly rated of all the Beograms.

Beograms with the RIAA fitted that will plug straight into your Beomaster and will work with remote control are the following:-

Beogram 4500, 3500, 6500 & 7000. There is also the tangential beogram 6000 quad  which has the fitted RIAA but I'm unsure whether this is compatible as far as remote control works - I'm sure someone here will know.

The 4500 is obviously the best cosmetic match as it was designed to be used with your existing system.

Thanks Chris.  Such a shame though.  It is a very beautiful turntable.

It is still worth doing and won't cost a lot of money or effort. I agree that the beogram 4002 is a beautiful machineSmile

RIAA preamps are freely available and cost anything from a few Euro's up to as much as you are willing to pay. Adaptor cables are also freely available and cheap to buy - simply ask here for advice on the correct ones.

If you're not after a perfect match between your Beomaster and Beogram cosmetically, then go for a 4002, as they're excellent decks that are so well built that you wouldn't believe. I moved house recently, and forgot exactly how well made (and heavy!) mine is! The platter alone must weigh a couple of kilos, and add to that the fact that the 4000 series of decks is recognised as a design classic, then you can't go wrong. I think the fact that there's so many still serviceable is testament to how well made they are, and how many owners have appreciated them for what they are over the years.

    Re: Beogram 4002/Beosystem 4500 compatibility

I know this is a late reply.  But if you can do some basic electronics including soldering, you can connect (or at least in theory, I've never needed to so I haven't tried) an older turntable to a beosystem through an riaa preamp and still have datalink.  You'll have to find a male and female din plug.  You would plug your turntable into the male din plug.  You'd then make a basic adapter, having the sound wires come from the din plug and go through your RIAA preamp, and back out to the female din plug.  The datalink wires from the male din plug would bypass the preamp and go right to the female din plug.

Basically you're just making a way to run the datalink wires around the preamp.
