Well, HMDI and Blu-Ray or HD/DVD are formats and technologies with a dual purpose:

1. Provide consumers with a better image and sound.

2. Provide content owners with an ability to lock content to prevent inappropriate use.

Some claim that 1 is the bait to make 2 simpler. Here's the proud owner of a SONY Blu-Ray player struggling to play the Pirates of the Carribean Liars game. His original disk wouldn't play at all, because of content protection issues due to SONY not having released the key while still selling the movie disk.

His struggle to get going with the game, all due to slow processing and lousy hardware is both fun and frustrating.
