    Apple TV loves BV7

before the sudden rest of this forum , i bought the apple tv . can't sleep well that night worrying about the distorted picture ( a black bar on the right side ; lowest part of picture appear on the upper top ) , but then ... straight from hell to heaven . just one little trick cures the distorted picture problem : switch on apple tv first , then bv7 . i think i must share some points to those who are planning to buy one , GO BUY IT !!  to those who is worrying about hooking apple tv to bv7 , don't worry . i just cannot believe my eyes and my ears . 720p is incredible for my bv7-32 ! even watching a trailer of  the movie " 300" is as good as can be . much much better than any of my dvds . the sound is also unbelievable , although the sound level is preset by apple tv to 40 , the bass is real deep . not to say the function of browsing thru cover art of my albums from the itunes  or watch photo thru iphoto .

    must remember :

    1. a hdmi / dvi adaptor is needed to plug into back of 7
    2. a usual dvi cable is fine . not dvi-d or what . a white/red rca cable is needed for sound .
    3. call up the pc function of beo4 , follow the manual for connecting a pc .
    4. in my case , software version 6.3 is upgraded .
    5. after installation , if no picture . unplug the apple tv for 1 minute , plug it back . you will see an apple logo .
    6. always remember : swich on apple tv first , then bv7 . unless , you will found distorted picture .
    7. my bv7 is mk 1 but upgraded to the 7th gen panel and up to date software .
    8. there are only 2 choice : 720p and 470p .
    9. you can improve the picture by setting hi / low hdmi bright
    10. switch off the apple tv by holding the play key of the remote for 6 seconds

    Great tips!

By the way, how much did you pay for the BV7 panel upgrade?
Have also been thinking to do this but never got any price.

after 1 year of usage , i found slight click sound produced by the tv . it's a defect of the panel , they came to change it for free . good side is : the picture is better just as coolskin said . the artifact problem was also improved . if you are still within your warrenty , just ask when you have problem . good luck . the service department in hong kong is really helpful , even though the warrenty is only fo 2 years .

... and loves the BeoVision 9 too :-)
I use the Apple TV with my (brand new) BV9 and its working (over HDMI used as AUX2). The quality is amazing. Now I am waiting to enable the STB-C to work with the Apple TV together.

Do you need a house cleaner? I'd be more than happy to steal clean your BeoVision 9 Big Smile.

This makes me want an Apple TV even more though. The Xbox 360 is rubbish as a mediacenter. It always sounds as if it's about to take off, only supports WMV and is rubbish at navigating through tonnes of music.

Also, RE the '300' movie trailer. I went to see it last night (actually went to see Sunshine, but it had sold out), and 300 was possibly one of the worst films I've ever seen. Every line was a cliché (such as "tonight, we DIE IN HELLL!!!" <roar from spartans>). I want my 2 hours of my life back. Angry

Sorry but I clean my staff by my self :-). But I like the AppleTV much more than Beomedia. Original, I want to order the Beomedia, but the AppleTV has the same feature set (with out a WebBrowser, but I have one in the PS3 and in the Wii). And the AppleTV work with iTunes MusicStore perfect together and I enjoy the US TV Series (I use a US iTunes Account).
I think the Problem for the PS3 not to be a MediaCenter, it is really difficult to get Media Content on it.

I gather that cleaning ones own staff is the German equivalent of blowing ones own trumpet in the UK. Either that or he's found a way round the automatic porn remover!

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

I just bought an AppleTV today - after thinking a lot about the BeoMedia Smile Everything seems to work fine so far exept for streaming - my whole library shows up on the AppleTV, even if I choose to share just one playlist. Do you also have this problem? Another thing --- have you tried any HDTV-trailers? The ones that you can select by default doesn't look very HiDef to me.

PS I'll probably by a BeoMedia if it gets this functionality ... but as far as I know there are no signs of that yet ... anyone more updated on this?

I don't know if you can be selective as to which Playlists get synced.

Video is definitely not HD. There's been some discussion about this here and in other places around the web. My view is that video quality lies between DVD and VHS. I don't have a  BV7 but DVDs look fantastic on my Avant (US), Apple TV does not. That's ok with me, casual music listening is more important to me.

I have managed to create a complete control file for the AppleTV on Lintronic that allows me to use my Beo4 and my personal favorite (toy) to also use a Beo1. B&O's version of a minimalist remote control is so much better than the plastic Apple remote.

There are some indications by Apple that they will have a "plug in" architecture for Apple TV. My hope is that this will eventually lead to the integration of the BeoPort into the AppleTV platform for a trully cool solution.

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

Well actually I can decide which playlists to sync but unfortunately - the whole library gets streamed ... I cannot shut down, or limit, the streaming. I'd like to be able to sync "finialized" high quality music - and leave the crap on my computer - same for slideshows. With slideshows it's however possible to have ONLY synch - since iPhoto doesn't stream to AppleTV as far as I know ... but with iTunes things are weird. I cannot see why it should not be possible to shut of streaming.

    I thought this should be a HD-device!!

The device is certainly HD. The navigation graphics are some of the best. Bus getting Quicktime HD results looks to be more difficult than I thought. Even SD DVD encoded in Quicktime are less than the original I think our eyes are probably better than our ears. I can absolutely tell the difference between a great CD and an ok (192) mp3. But for casual listening it's absolutely acceptable. On the other hand, I find that video on the AppleTV is a bit of a chore.

Perhaps we just need TVs with lower quality screens. That might solve the problem. Wink

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

    Interesting, I also have a BV7.
I have an apple tv, but I am waiting for the HDMI cable. I want to put the apple tv in a box so you won't see it. When it is in the box, the IR won't work. I fully want to control the Apple tv with the Beo4. You metioned you have to switch the apple tv on first and then the BV7: and then it all works with the Beo4?

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

I don't see how Apple TV could be controlled with a beo4 except with Lintronic. Unless of course the BV7's IR database has already been updated with the AppleTV IR codes.

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

no , beo4 cannot control apple tv up to now . the "switch-on-apple tv-first" thing is for preventing a picture distortion bug while using an old bv7-32 . maybe , buying a beo5 will do that dirty job .

anyway , after playing with the apple tv for weeks , i still enjoy the music , movie , podcast , photo all-in-one concept .

and 720p picture for my bv7-32 is just great !

    Re: Apple TV loves BV7

No. I want the Beo4 to control the BV7. When I select PC, the BV7 should control the Apple TV, via the hardwired PC connection, not directly via IR.
