Yes, the fine people at Apple revised the OS, and reintroduced the audio pop at shutdown, you may want to lose that.

You do realise the issue lies with OS X and not with the actual speakers? It used to irritate me, but it's been fine recently.

I too had the issue after the 10.4.10 update, but it's since fixed itself. Very strange...
