    Avant to BM5500

I wonder if anybody could offer assistance please, I have a BM5500, which I have connected to an Avant via a ML converter, the problem I am having is the Bm 5500 and associated peripherals will talk to the Avant, but I cannot get the Avant to talk to the BM5500.

I do not have the surround system on the Avant, so my speakers are passive. it might very well be that the way I have set it up is pilot error on my part, ie not the correct options selected.

I just cannot understand why it will talk one way and not the other,  The master link box i am using is a Beolink  Converter (Type 1611) coupled to masterlink cable, the other side of the box is connected to a din plug which runs to the 5500 Aux/tape2 which is split into 2 din leads from the Amp.

    Serial numbers and types follow:

Avant  Item number  1813011  Serial No 12941611 Type 81/03

BM 5500  Serial No 04454800   there is also another number which is 3617 then a large space followed by a 1

Remote controls I use are the 5500 Master control Panel and the Beolink 1000 and also the Beo4 which I have two of, one of them gives a software version 1 when accessed, the other one gives EE: 3.2  (I assume this is a software revision)

I also require the part number please for the chip to upgrade the BM5500 to BM6500 spec.

    Can anyone help please?

    Thanks

    Re: Avant to BM5500

Assuming that you have both systems set to option 1 then to get sound from the "wrong" speakers you have to precede the relevent command with AV.

So, to get Avant sound from 5500 speakers you press AV then TV on the BL1000

    Re: Avant to BM5500

Hi Graham  thanks for the advice I had already tried this and the result is the TV picture goes off with the sound only from the Avant, ie as normal with no picture.  I have to press TV to return the Avant back to picture and sound.

If I play the Phono and then access the TV I can play Records and any other source from the BM5500.

Am I missing something in the way I have set up the Avant incorrectly (ie should there be an option on the setup screen for the AV Link or audio output.)

It might be worth mentioning that when the Record was playing I had to have a high gain on the TV to hear it. For instance if the VOL on the BM was 22 then the Vol on the Avant will be in the region of 44 to 48.

When I had the old 28"LX Television, the BM5500 worked in harmony with it.  The Only difference of course was that that seven pin din connection was direct. how  can  I tell which options are enabled on the Avant please

Similarly how can I tell if option one is enabled on the BM5500.  I am sure I have something wrong somewhere..

The BL 1000 just would not respond to the commands today until I switched everything off at the wall then when repowered it went straight into the auxilary mode with out prompting, I am sure the output from the avant  is working ok, as when I disconnect the 7 pin din from the BM5500 the speakers make a noise.

I am hoping to move abroad shortly and I am trying to resolve this before moving.

    Thank you

    regards

Try re-setting the options. Put Avant and 5500 in standby. Then on BL1000 press

    SOUND 1 STORE

    PICTURE 1 STORE

The standy by lights should blink when the command is accepted.

    Let me know!

    Re: Avant to BM5500

    Hi Graham

We are a little bit further on, in so far as both the units are now accepting the commands via AV and no loss of picture, however when i turn the volume up on the BM5500 speakers all I can hear is the pulse through the speakers as the volume increases ( the speakers I have are Bose acoustimass 5 mini cubes with sub and a pair of Bose 301s) The C75s and 55s are upstairs on another system)  I can hear the pulse through all the Bose speakers and the volume reading increases on the BM5500 but no audio signal.

The Bm5500 is at a more compatible level in so far you do not have to have a high gain on the Avant ie 6 on the BM and 16 on the avant for pleasant easy listening and not in your face. before you had to have a high gain on the amp 24 and 48 ish on the Avant.  Just listening to one of my favorite easy listening records while replying.

I have just had an awful thought which may make me look very stupid, the way I am trying to access the avant to the Bm5500 Is using shift/ Radio on the BL1000 which takes me into the aux mode (this is the way I used to access the Beovision 2800LX.

I have just noticed on the BL1000 there is a button in the middle at the top (LINK) should I be using this?

I don't want to mess with this until I hear from you, please advise how to use ( I do not have any instructions for the Converter) So if I have made a stupid mistake I apologise whole heartedly.

    Thank you

    kind regards

    Re: Avant to BM5500

With both items in option 1 they should each respond to their own commands.

TV on the remote should switch on the TV with sound through the Avant speakers

CD should play CD sound through the 5500 speakers

Precede either command by AV to route the sound to the "wrong" speakers. f.e. AV CD would play CD sound through the Avant speakers and AV TV would play TV sound through the 5500 speakers.

I don't have the system set up any longer but I'm pretty sure that's how my 8500/MX6000 worked.

@Peter Can you confirm or otherwise?

    Re: Avant to BM5500

    Hi Graham

The Bm5500 works with Avant as you predicted watching tv select AV phono tv audio goes off and phono accessed through Avant speakers, however there is still no audio output from the Bm speakers, when selecting AV/ TV it does not switch on the amp the only way I am able to do this is via AV shift/Radio which accesses the Aux command on the Bm,

When I alternate the AV between the two the tv volume works as it should but I am not receiving an audio signal from the Bm when accessing AV the volume goes up on the display, but although the volume increases on the speakers there is still no audio signal, I have tried taking the splitter cable out and going direct with 7 pin din lead but this has had no effect.

Which leads me to believe there is a compatibility problem between the two.

Please advise, I am thinking about changing the CPU in the 5500 for 6500, do you think this could/would solve the problem ,

I have a collection of B&O products including Beolab 1700, Beocord 1100, Beogram 1902, Beocentre 1400, Becord 1200 reel to reel, A beomaster 900K  Series 1 and A 900K also I have a 900RG (My Favorite)  They all sound as good as when purchased although some are showing signs of wear the RG being one of them.  I also have a pair of 2702 speakers and a Pair of Scan Dyna A10s.  So as you can see I am quite a B&O addict,   Unfortunately I cannot afford the latest range of products but I am very pleased with My 5500 set up and the Avant, I just wish they would work together.

Thank you for your time please advise regarding Bm5500 issue.

    kind regards
