    Beogram 6500 repair

    Hello all,

    Wondered if anyone can help.

I have a beogram 6500 which I bought second hand. It is in excellent condition but when I tried to use it it just shut down. Further investigation revealed that the 'wire' that pulls the arm assy along had come off and was floating around the interior!

Looking into this further, it seems that the cable should attach to the arm assy by hooking onto a little plastic tag which has of course broken off! Has anyone seen this before, Any suggestions for attempting to repair it? I was lucky in that the unit came with an MMC2 in excellent condition :)

One last thing is that when connected to the beosystem 6500 the deck doesn't seem to respond to remote commands - I have checked the DIN plug and the extra pins are present. Are there any 'usual' things I can check here.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

    cheers,

    Adam

Hi Adam & welcome to beoworld.Smile

As for your problem, yes I have seen this before. You have 2 options here.

1 Find any non-working later (same era) tangential tracking turntable and swap the whole assembly. These later decks use the exact same chassis so anything from the BG5005 to the 7000 will do.

    2. Do as I did and make a replacement hook out of a small brass flat head rivet and cement this in place with epoxy resin. You'll need to push this up through the hole where the plastic lug has snapped off from underneath, very tricky to do without removing the assembly but I managed with some long nosed pliers. I did a dry run first and marked where the rivet come through and carefully cut a fine groove so it is also secured with a spring clip "C" type washer thing whatever it is called.

    Chris.

    Hello Chris,

Thanks for the speedy reply :). I suspected that something along those lines would be the solution. Good to know that someone else has tried it too!

    Many thanks,

    Adam

PS, Any thoughts on the remote?
