7 Pin DIN leads for Beogram and Beocord

I have in other posts mentioned a few minor trouble with my Beogram 8002 and Beomaster 6000.

The basic fault were that the BG arm would go straight to the end of a record and get stuck. Also a few times when pushing play the arm would go to the begining but then go back and stop instead.

Strange as both Beogram and Beomaster had a newly service by my B&O dealer. The Beomaster has a heating isue but plays good and have no real trouble to speak of.

Now the datalink 7 pin DIN cable for the Beogram is not original and needs 2 pins which are on order.

The weird thing is that I have been using the system for a week or so with no problems what's so ever playing record after record or listning to some radio stations. Even playing a record while writing this!

This got me thinking about the two DIN cables I got from the dealer to use. They have 7 pins normaly but are not marked B&O and I do know that there is difference in the cables for Beogram and Beocord.

The Beocord 9000 is under service so I don't know how it would work.

What is the difference as I forgot?

Re: 7 Pin DIN leads for Beogram and Beocord

The most important difference is the shielding.

Some Beogram cables are only "one-way" so won't allow both recording and playback if used with a Beocord. Others have the input/output pins paralleled (why ?), which in turn will connect the play signals directly to the record signals and, needless to say, won't work with a Beocord either.

Using a Beocord cable on a Beogram will in some cases work fine but could result in humming or similar due to the missing extra shielding.

My advice would be to use an original 7-pin DIN "Phono" cable for the Beogram.
