    MBP -> WiFi -> BS9000 ?

    Hi gang!

    I would like to send music from iTunes, Spotify, radio from MBP 2010 (and iPad and iPhone) to my BS9000 aux and then ML all over the house (as the Mac Mini I got was faulty, see other thread). The obvious is getting an AirPort Express, but it feels like overkill as I already have a Time Capsule. I only need the possibilty to stream music over WiFi.

    Is there some kind of simple device I can get? No need for remote control and so on.

    If the Airport Express is the simpliest and cheapest solution, will there be any interference with the Time Capsule or will it enhance my wireless network? Any problems with interference with the wireless printer I already have?

    As I understand it I will need some software to be able to stream other music then iTunes, like Airfoil?

    I think it's to bad the Time Capsule doesn't fix this as well.

    I think an Airport Express is the simplest and possibly cheapest way for wirelessly get from your MacBook Pro to the BS 9000's AUX.IN

    I agree that it is disappointing that the Time Capsual does not perform those tasks, but then its design point is completely different (hands free backups as opposed to hands free music !)

    My own experience is that there will be no interference; however you do have two options:

    1. install the AE as a separate network (this is the OOTB option), or
    2. use Airport utilities to configure the AE as a bridge to extend your Time Capsule's network (you will need to read an Apple manual carefully - available as I recall as a download)

    First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

    Re: MBP -> WiFi -> BS9000 ?

    Thanks, Elephant!

    As I have the Time Capsule and BS9000 in the living room on the first floor it would be better to place the AE in the basement and connect it to the TV instead, as it will enhance my wireless network in the basement. I have the BS9000 on a clean wall so it would also be easier to hide the AE down there.

    This bridge, will it be by WiFi from TC to AE? Will it be better with a cable (as I can arrange that)?

    A wire connection would always be better ... however wireless could work and is worth a test.

    I am copying this from the manual I downloaded (but I am sure it has been updated since 2009) "AirPort_Express_SetupGuide_5.1":

    Extending the Range of an Existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express Network

    You can connect an additional AirPort Express to extend the range of your existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express network. Adding a base station or AirPort Express to an existing network creates what is known as a Wireless Distribution System (WDS).

    If the AirPort network is connected to the Internet, computers can connect to the AirPort network and share the Internet connection.

    How to Set It Up

    1. You need to have an existing AirPort network created by an AirPort Extreme Base Station or an AirPort Express connected to the Internet. This base station is called the main base station and shares its Internet connection with your AirPort Express.

    2. Use AirPort Utility to join your network and extend its range. (See page 25 for more information.)

      Both base stations share the Internet connection with client computers wirelessly, or using Ethernet if the client computers are connected by Ethernet.

    And ...

    Extending the Range of an Existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express Network

    You can extend the range of an existing AirPort Extreme or AirPort Express wireless network by setting it up in a WDS. Wireless computers can connect to the network and share the Internet connection, share files, and play network games. If you connect your AirPort Express to your home stereo, computers on your wireless network can use AirTunes to play music on the stereo from iTunes. If you connect a USB printer to your AirPort Express, all of the computers on the network can print to it.

    Checking the alternative to connect AE to BS9000, but I can´t find a cable for that! I guess BS9000 has a 7-pin DIN for in, what is the output from AE? Any clue where to check for cable?

    Having a monologue here (as elephant probably gone to sleep down under). Doing some search I have an idea. It will work with a 5-pin DIN! Correct?

    Adapter 3,5 mm to 5-pin DIN is easier to find.

    Most likely it will - I checked the pins on the Beotech micro-site and pin 6 and pin 7 are used for things like the datalink signals.

    Daniel:
    what is the output from AE?

    AE mini-jack is analogue audio output, or optionally optical

    So you can have a DAC between the AE and the BS 9000 like many here do ... but start with a simple mini-jack to 5-pin DIN analogue connection

    Re: MBP -> WiFi -> BS9000 ?

    Got the AE today. Started to read the setup guide and it was the most wasted 3 minutes of my life. I connected AE to LX and plugged AE to power outlet. Inserted the setup CD in MBP, choosed what setup I wanted (nice and simple pictures) and ta da! It works!

    I can now listen to music from iPad, iPhones or MBP anywhere I want in da house.

    Next is be able to listen to other sources than iTunes like Spotify. I guess I need some App for that. Any suggestions? Airfoil?
