This is a kind of mini revolution...at last! Stick out tongue

It finally gives sense to using BeoConnect with a single library for all Apple & B&O products.

However, does this update also work for BeoSound 5 Encore? Hmm

And what about gapless playback? Will that work in ALAC format too?

    Reunion Island is greeting you!

Same question here : GAPLESS Playback????? And maybe it's too early for the Encore, but I'm crossing my fingers...

I think it would be funny if they reduced the gaps without eliminating them.

The recent update is for BSd/BM5 and the version # is 6.05.01.3357.

For all BSd5s with ripping station the update offers now the choice to rip
WMA-Lossless as before and now, additionally, MP3- 320-Kbit/sec for
    compatibility to i-Devices ...

AT LAST!  The Beosound 5 is now going to be my full time music player.

Most of my music is in the Apple Lossless format ripped over the last 3 years.  This will free space on my iMac.

DAMN! The BS5 not playing Apple Lossless was the only thing which prevented me from buying one Geeked

Anyway... I'm surprised in the speed in which B&O adapted the BS5 after Apple released their Lossless format in Open Source!

The race for quality has no finish line- so technically, it's more like a death march.

I expected it, but I hadn't heard any advance warning that it was about to drop. My next question is naturally - Why can you now rip in WMA & MP3-320, but NOT ALAC? Seems like that would have been a natural choice. I'm sure it's coming soon, but it would have been nice to have it at launch.

Trip, What is the large backup server B&O recommends?  I'm going to need it.

This is the first stand alone media player I know of that supports WMA Lossless, Apple Lossless and FLAC.

Nice to have the option of all formats, I use WMA and FLAC though.

    There is something about B&O.....

It would have be great that B&O did a world first... But Sonos do it already (but no HD file support, so B&O is now ahead), and are you sure that things like Linn Klimax don't do it already??

I'm hoping the best for the Encore now...

Anyone can try the BS5 with gapless album to confirm that it's now working as seamlessly as FLAC/WMALossless?

    Re: BS5 supports Apple Lossless

How do you transfer the files? I only receive error messages when using BeoConnect - "xx.m4a is an AppleLossless file and can't be transferred to the B&O product".

BS5 and BeoConnect are naturally updated with the latest software.

I also find it a bit strange that this new feature is not mentioned after the software update of the BS5. All I get is information that the Beo6 now has two-way functionality. That is of course a nice feature but "old" news, at least for us dedicated to Beoworld.

I was thinking the same thing ... has anyone confirmed that this works yet?

The ALAC capability may be available to some of us, but not all: it may be one of those test updates that B&O has released to some users for them to test for free.

It's not the first time it happens, if I remember.Surprise

Don't do it ( dropping 6k for a Breitling), you cannot burn money any better....

I suspect this is due to Apple recently making the ALAC codec open source and there is also rumour that the codec is capable of supporting High Res recordings. This could be the beginning of something for all those Apple Audiphiles!

    Re: BS5 supports Apple Lossless

Qobuz.com is already selling HD tracks in Apple Lossless file format. It's already possible, but not sure if the BS5 decode HD ALAC (iTunes do it, Airport Express don't, and I don't know about Apple TV)

It is not working for me on my BS5.

Q: when i did a rescan in net music, and it picked up the ALAC rip i did in itunes, Also found it wouldn't play in Beoplayer on my W7 machine. The tracks just sequentially light up rapidly to the last one, but no sound. Can anyone clarify?
