Can penta 2 active connect to an external amplifier?

Dear sir, i am the owner of your Penta II active speaker and BeoCenter 8500.

Recently i got a non B&O power amp, may I know if i can use Speaker Link socket to connect between the Penta and this power amp and BYPASS the internal amp of Penta? Will this cause damage to speaker? or any special setting of Penta switch is required? million thx!

    You have two options:

    1. The simplest way: connect the speaker outputs of your amp to the SpeakerLink sockets. All you need is a cable with suitable connectors (a 2 pin DIN is enough at the Penta end). This will not however bypass the Penta amp: it is still being used to drive the speaker. The input level switch (|, ||, |||) in the Pentas needs to be set accordingly; you will probably need the least sensitive (one line) setting. Mode switch goes to AUTO.
    2. Or, if you really want to bypass the Penta amp, you will need to actually remove it. This will essentially leave you with a pair of Beovox Pentas.

Either way, the displays won't be showing anything any more, and all this is a bit of a waste of a nice pair of active Pentas.

This what I did with my pentas - removed the amps, then re-threaded the amp cable out of one of the horizontal gaps at the rear, and then some speaker wires from the speaker out between amp and speaker, you could of course route this the same way as the amp wires. I then re-attached the amp module and terminated the wires with the typical 2 pin dins used by B&O i.e. female on amp side and male on speaker side. This allows me to quickly dissconnect the penta amps and connect another amp straight to the speakers without going through the amp. Works well :) and sounds much better than the 'offical' way!

Of course, as Mika says if you are not going to use the penta amp at all you might as well remove the amp and displays and sell them, this has been discussed recently!

    Olly.
