    finally...a beogram :)

    Hi,

just ordered my first Beogram from Graham in Beo4Life (Stemma AV). Seems to be a guy people here trust a lot!

Its a Beogram 7000 turntable with tangential tonearm and a MMC2 newly refurbished stylus (By Axel).  Also has a built in RIAA Amp, so it is as simple as  plug and play (hopefully!!) with my BeoSound 9000 or my BV 7-40.

He tells me its in pretty good nick, so can't wait now to get it in the post.

     excited, excited, excited :) :) :)

i will post some pics of my set-up as soon as I have it all up and running.

    Paul

BeoVision 7-40 MKIV with BeoLab 7-4 Vertical speaker, BeoSound 9000 CD/Tuner, Speakers are a pair of  BeoLab 5 in Black with a pair of BeoLab 4000 as rear speakers, and in bedroom BeoCentre 6-26 with BeoLab 8000's. Both the Kitchen and bathroom have Beolab3500's. BeoCom 2 and BeoCom 5 phones. Beo 6 and Beo4 remotes. LATEST ADDITION: Beogram 7000 with MMC2 stylus....

Congratulations with the Beogram, you'll not regret the purchase. Retipped MMC2's by Axel is, in my opinion, his best sounding option Smile

Congratulation Paul, and welcome to the vintage age and Black Magic, Your turntable will bring you a lot of joy, to put on a good record, see it turn around, the pick up arm lovwering and as magic, sounds comes out in your speakers, is something special, and if you play records the whole day long, you can quit the gym, you will have to leave your chair to change or turn the record, clean them before each play and store them properly in the covers, all a procedure that gives a special feeling when playing Black Magic. Laughing

And to explain this kind of records to the younger people I tell them "this is the new Black-Ray"

    love it Soran :)

..actually Im of the age that remembers Vinyl (I'm 50) ...... I bought my first album in 1973 when i was age 12....David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust!!! was magic then and the move to CD and now to digital downloads is simply not the same experience as cleaning and playing your vinyl LP's :)

Looking forward to re-collecting a new set of LP's!!!!

Thanks for the good wishes guys.

Guess im a child of the late 70's and 80's....I was 11 when Ziggy Stardust was recorded in 1972 and grew up on  pop/rock n glam rock, metal,  then punk,  and even New age :)...but i do listen to all recent artists as well..right now listening to Adele's "21".....

Im particularily interested in Choral and Classical these days, particularily a boy choral group called Libera (sometimes listed as St. Phillips Boys ChoirLondon)...awesome when played on lab5's...moves me to a different dimension!!!!!

But i've listened to Chuck B and Buddy holly, and its great. To be honest, ever decade produces some incredible artists and a huge amount of S***.......

    HI Paul

I also have a beogram 7000, a rather rare white version in close to mint condition- I love it!

It did come with a MMC2 , but must say the sound improved incredibly when i purchased a SOund Smith MMC1.. worth considering if you have spare cash at any point  :)

Its probably worth me getting Axel to look at my MMC2..

    Enjoy!

LaughingLaughing, well I'm also listening a lot to newer artist, and agree with your comment. For the classical part I'm into Haendel at the moment, and lately getting interested in a pair of new Mexican Dirigents. I did also buy the new 180 gram version of Wish You Were Here, my old copy was played to death! Sounds good and very detailed. I have a €99 option (elliptical), two €159 (aluminum cantilever, MMC2 specs) and one €179 (shibata). I might throw up a review sometime, done on Beogram 4000 with the old MMC20-series I have and a Beogram 8002 with the MMCx-series I have. I can also compare with an original MMC2 which is still working flawlessly, a good MMC20S, MMC20E(two in fact) and an MMC20CL Smile

David, you sholud post a pic of ur white Beogram 7000, and it must sound delicous with an MMC1...perfection!

    Soren,

I am a little envoius that you own a Beogram 4000!!! lol.

A Wonderful piece of Beo Engineering, in fact often referred to as over-engineered. and you have an equally impressive colllection of MMC's - im particularly happy to hear thre MMC2 is a good stylus as I will be a proud owner of one within a few days, thanks to Graham:)

I know about the Mexco city auditorium, and  if im not mistaken, Deep Purple did a re-formed gig there last year in 2011 in march or april??

Wow in terms of Handel : "The Messiah" was written by Handel in my city,  Dublin. I adore Handel too.

Can I recommend a piece by another classical composer called Allegri. The piece is called the MISERERE. it is sublime, transcendent, utter perfection.

It was originally performed only within the Vatican By The Palastrina Boys Choir (some of these unlucky boys were  referred to as  Castrato - a barbaric practice of castrating boys before their voices underwent the change of adolescence in order to preserve its tone and pitch).

it is said that Mozart, hearing the MISERERE as a child age 8 or 9,  wrote it down note for note, from memory,  after listening to a performance.  He said it was the finest piece of choral music ever written. Little annoying Brat by the sound of that story lol!!! Hes lucky he never joined the Palastrina because Mozart, if I remember, was fairly fond of the ladies He escaped the fate of Castration at the hands of the choir-master!

I'll be buying this as well.

Bought the Dark Side of the Moon anniversary edition a couple years ago, and was disappointed.  Sibilance.  Then was disappointed to read last fall's re-re-release of Dark Side sounded terrible as well (check user reviews on Amazon).  Apparently the terrible sound was limited to a US pressing, and European pressings were fine.

I did buy the rerelease of Wish You Were Here this month and like it very much.

Has anyone bought the Immersion versions of any of the Floyd rereleases?

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

WRONG!  The MMC4 is a good cartridge; the MMC2 is a great one.

One never hears the MMC3 discussed.  I think I've only ever seen one for sale.

Pink Floyd's - The Wall was the last LP I bought new back in 1988 (still have it) until I rediscovered vinyl  when I caught the Beovirus and got my first Beogram back in 2009.

My latest new vinyl acqusitions have been "Stereolab" LP re-releases on the Too Pure and drag City/Duophonic labels. I really like Peng and Aluminum Tunes.

I have an MMC3 on my BC7700. Think the equivalent of an MMC20EN and you get the picture. Not as "bright" as the MMC4. Very smooth - almost soft I would say.

    Re: finally...a beogram :)

A slightly used MMC3 sounds like a new MMC4 - although i do admit there's very little in it.

The MMC2 an excellent cartridge, but only if you're using good speakers. An MMC4 is fine if you're using BeoLab 4, 4000, 6000 etc (in my opinion of course!)

If you ever get chance to own an MMC1 - do it !!  Honestly, they're almost CD like in quality.

love the pics eugene - really nice :)

lee, my plan is to eventualy get an MMC1 but i'll have to wait a few months as other pressing needs here in poor old Ireland :)

also take Sorens point that on old 'well played' vinyl, it might be better to be  using a less expensive stylus than an MMC 1 or 2!....

Its great to see so many guys here intot the vinyl again..some probably never stopped using it, others (like me) are returning to it for that wonderful warm and full sound that is so often missing from digital, esp from compressed downloads.
