Re: BeoLit 12 is in the shops! Initial impressions?

Saw it today also, VERY expensive here in AUS (AU$990) compared with the USA (US$799), which is a shame.

I do really like its sound!

Well, taxes are not 250 USD...

It is just the expensive air plane ticket that gets them over from china to Australia - one by one...

Being an old duffer like Jeff, I can't think of an application (in my life) where this is the only or the best or even the best looking option. Nor am I keen on the supposed youth friendly "forward base" presentation - in years gone by they were called boom boxes! - although I am prepared to change my mind when I hear it.

But then again I've retired my (free) iPhone too. Maybe I am an untrendy Neanderthal!Erm

I suppose in Holland it is 19% VAT, just like in Germany.

That makes it appr. 588 Euro  (=774 USD = 724 AUD) + VAT

I have to say ... I brought one of these home last week and I can't stop using it.  Great little device!

This might sound insane, but I was using it most of the day yesterday and when the battery finally died I was actually a little bit disappointed that I needed to turn my TV (with BeoLab 5's!) on to keep listening to Spotify radio.  I think they definitely nailed it with the development of this product.

Just had a demo of it in Athens B&O store. Nice little device. Nice feeling but i was prepared by photos and the B&O Play website. But the price in Greece is 780Euros. As always we are expensive for no apparent reason. Also had a side by side comparison to BS8. In my ears BS8 has much more complete sound stage. Just my opinion though.

Does anyone in Greece have 780Euro's anymore...? Surprise

I'm surprised B&O shops in Greece can turn a profit as the economy's so f****d at the moment Sad

First of all, do not believe all you see in the news. Smile

Economy is bad, but i think that is apparently more or less allover Europe, not to say the globe. Unsure

Either way, i agree. 780Euros are a lot. At the time being is the minimum wage (per month) of an employee here.

I am confused. Were you expecting the smaller, portable and cheaper BeoLit to match the bigger, fixed and more expensive BeoSound 8 sound wise?

Beolit 12 sounds perfectly decent to me for a portable music player. It's better than my made-in-Denmark problematic Beosound 3, for example, which is only a few pounds less, but with a mono speaker and basic FM support. Beolit 12 is £599. Beosound 3 is approx £530. I'd rather have a Beolit 12.

Correct, yes. But then everyone did. When I took it back to my local dealer, there were about 10 other Beosound 3's lined up for repair. Indeed, there was a backlog.

Re: BeoLit 12 is in the shops! Initial impressions?

They just need to add Airplay to all the speakers.  I don't see why B&O couldn't do that considering how much they charge.

In terms of competition with airplay and battery, there is the Philips SoundRing for $300 USD.  I happen to win one on eBay for $100.  I thought it was a pretty good deal considering a Airport Express is that price alone.  It sounds about what you would expect, but has a unique look.

Reminds me of an old Roberts Radio form the mid 70's . Looks pretty naff tbh. Hardly cutting edge.

Where's Jacob Jensen when you need him ?

His beolit 600 from 1970 - over 40 years ago - makes this look stone age.

No of course. But i had the oppprtunity to test this in real life.

I really like the Beolit 12, pretty fresh, although I can see the retro aspect of the design also. By contrast the Philps Fidelio is pretty derivative of the type of design B&O have been producing over the last two decades. Remove the Philips logo and replace with B&O logo. Add a few perforations on the aluminium finish and bingo - instant B&O product.
