Re: BeoLit 12 is in the shops! Initial impressions?

    Daniel:

Apple Store says it's working with iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

So it will not work at all with a 3GS? Or will it work with some limitations?

Re: BeoLit 12 is in the shops! Initial impressions?

I wanted to point out an interesting observation I made today regarding airplay.  That is, airplay uses the EQ settings of the iPhone.  While I believe the EQ settings are off by default, if you have the EQ turned on, airplay will use whatever EQ settings you currently have set.  I mention this because I remember a while back I was, out of curiosity, trying out the EQ settings on my iPhone with a set of headphones and inadvertently left the EQ on and forgot about it.  After several weeks of feeling like there was something off with the sound, I finally checked the EQ and realized that I had left it on.

In any case, I was curious if the EQ settings were operational while using airplay...and sure enough they are.  Not only that, the EQ settings have a significant effect on the sound of the Beolit 12, much more than they do on earphones.  I believe it is a matter of personal taste as to whether the EQ will improve or detract from the sound of the Beolit 12.  Personally, I believe the Beolit 12 (and just about everything else) sounds better with the EQ off.

Nevertheless, being aware of the EQ is important for two reasons.  First, if you are auditioning the Beolit 12, make sure the EQ on the iPhone you are using is off (at least initially).  Second, if you feel that the sound of the Beolit 12 could use an adjustment (maybe for just a certain type of music), try the various EQ settings to see if one comports with your tastes.

By the way, the EQ settings on the iPhone are found at Settings>Music>EQ

Is Airplay two-way on the BeoLit 12 i.e. using a Beo4 remote you can turn the volume up or down but can you pause or skip to the next track?

I don't think the Beo4 works with the Beolit 12, does it? I think everything is controlled from your iPhone or the limited touch controls on top of the device?

Mind you, my Beo4 does work with my Beosound 8, something that's much over-looked.

You can control the Beolit 12 with a B&O remote. That is what the IR receiver is for.The Beo4 and Beo6 will both work and I dare say the Beolink 1000 et al will as well.

Good news, thanks for confirming. I like the Beolit 12. I'll wait for the new colours to hit dealers in March, before purchasing.

Peter, and a phone! Always find it useful to quickly mute from my Beocom 5 when a call comes in.

Apparently the BeoSound 8 remote will work as well!  Have yet to try this though but I've had it confirmed from a number of reliable sources.  BUT if you read the FAQ on the main website (not beoplay.com) you'll see it might work a little bit better with a Beo4

I listened to the Beolit 12 at my local dealer today.

Was very impressed with the sound. In my ears excelent voice and also an impressive depth.

Unit was smaller than I thought. In my opinion no "cheap plastic" I read in some review. Felt very solid.

    Will for sure buy one.

Re: BeoLit 12 is in the shops! Initial impressions?

I have heard it today and i was impressed by its room filling sound for such a small unit. For a new product that is at least being aimed at women aswell, i think launching it in battleship grey was not the best od moves. First impressions and all that.

I don't think the plastic felt cheap, and predict i will be the first to see if its cup of tea proofErm The Beosound 3 was much more of a traditional B&O product with its brilliant aerial launching from the unit, but i found the sound ordinary and it was only FM(limited and unreliable here).

More colours, and for what it's worth i think it is about £50 too much to make it appealing.

A Beovision 10-40 in black and red fret on order, Beo4, Beo6, many A8's, a pair of white and yellow Form 2's, Beocom 4, 28 inch Avant RF DVD, Apple TV and a wife that loves this stuff as much as i do!

I noticed that also.  I'll be real positive.  Maybe B&O sold so many Beolit 12s in their own stores that none are available for Apple to sell.  It's also possible they have decided to wait until there are muliple colors available. The Beolit 12 is not in the Amazon store either.

My wife has decided she wants a Beolit 12 in yellow for the kitchen.  I think it is a great product except I didn't expect to buy 2.

I think someone assumed this, no doubt from the outsourced thread :)

Build quality is really high. Luckily for us, the Chinese outsourced manufacturing to their Danish plant.

    Also...

I RTFM... does the 12 have to be physically turned on or are the three source inputs sensing?

Burantek, I have only used the wireless mode. You do have to touch the power button and then touch the wireless button. The wireless button will flash white for about 30 seconds and then flash orange for another 30 seconds as it connects to the network. Select Beolit 12 in the AirPlay menu and that's it.

I am listening to iTunes on an iPhone through Beolit 12 as I type this into the Beoworld app. Really cool.

    Thanks linder!

So it sounds like you have to press the ON/OFF button to bring the 12 to life. Hmmm...

Have you experimented using a remote, Beo4 et al?

I ask as I was considering my FM source options... would be cool if it functioned with source sensing.

I am using a Beo4 to control volume and to power off Beolit 12. I also control the lights with the same Beo4. No problems yet.

Another cool thing is the sound is muted automatically when using the iPhone for a call.

Burantek, All of the local FM stations that I listen to are in Beoplay or have an app. Standard terrestrial FM in my case wasn't a consideration.

I had the app, but deleted it. I will reinstall right now.

Yes, I use TuneIn Radio app and few other online sources. Part of me just enjoys bridging the old with the new and figured that if the inputs sensed, I could get away with one less step.

Forgetting about remotes for a minute, my vision is jacking a 60's BM5000 tuner in teak to the yellow 12... bet it would be a knockout!
