I am trying to find a beomaster 4500 with software version 2.1 or higher, but they are hard to find. Is it easy to change the software on a beomastr 4500? And does anyone have these software available?

If you are trying to make it 2 way , a chip is/was aveliable ( got the part number someware ) . This chip will 2 way the 3500 also .

HI . I'm no expert but I think they are the same with a different outer casing and this chip is the 3500 to 4500 change . Just one thing the master must have is the double IR eye behind the bump under the front right edge , some early one's did'nt , should be able to see it with a torch . This conversion is only of use if you have a Beo7000 or 5000 remote .

In contrast to the Beomaster 4500, there was no programmable timer and no two-way IR communication. It would be nice if someone could tell if the software ROMs from the 4500 and 3500 are interchangeable.

It's worth noting that while the chip makes the BeoSystem 4500 2-way with compatible remotes, it also removes the option to put the BeoSystem 4500 into "slave" mode.

I've done three of these 3500 conversions and as far as I can see work as a 4500 . striped the grey lids on two of them to reveal the polished plate beneth and black gloss paint on the third , far better than the horible grey.

With the older software, you can use the BeoSystem 4500 in a link room with it connected via Master Link to an audio master in another room, giving you the capability to play either the BeoSystem 4500 sources or the audio master sources in the link room where the BeoSystem 4500 is. With the software upgrade, the BeoSystem 4500 can only act as the audio master in a Master Link network.

It's connected to the ML or MCL and can, therefore, play an audiomaster source from another room connected to the ML or MCL. Note, however, that connecting the 4500 to the link will interfere with N.Music.

I do not understand how this could work with MCL.

My situation is: BM4500 in the main room with attached Phono, Tape and CD, a MCL cable connecting 2 MCL2AVs + Beolabs / MCL2P in the linkrooms.

The intention is to use another BM4500 in a further linkroom, to play either its local sources or sources from the BM in the main room.

I see only 2 possibilities: to connect the BM in the linkroom either with the MCL cable, but this would electrically interfere with the BM in the main room, or with a MCL2AV via the AUX.
