Hi folks.
I have a pair of the m70´s and I´m very pleased by the sound and looks. One thing that annoys me is the noise in one woofer. I think the reason is because of the high age of these old mates.
To day I decided to try to fix the problem or at least see if everything was ok cosmeticly behind the "frames". When I opened them up, I discovered that it looks like the speakers have different woofers. The funny thing is that both woofers is marked "seas 25F-EWX" which are the orginals in this speaker. The differens is the dome and the magnet (pictures). It is also harder to push down the membrane on the woofer with the smallest dome, and this driver reminds very of the woofer in the s75´s, the seas 25F-EWR. But the woofer who has the distortion problem is the one with the large dome. I have heard someone mention it was a woofer-change in beovox m70, but did the woofer change started in my pair? lol :)
But seriously, anyone who knows why the woofer-change happend?
I also wonder, are these woofers the same woofers although they look different and can the woofer be fixed? - By the way, let me know if any of you has this driver for sale, I really would have this fixed :-O
Thanks, and sorry for my bad english :P
Marius.
To the right, "large dome driver", left "small dome driver"
The lowest driver is the one with large dome..

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
It's possible the one with a larger dust cap had been repaired and a new, larger dust cap installed. If you gently press on the speaker cones do you hear of feel any scraping sound? If so, there is some damage to the speaker.

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
I can't say from the pictures which one looks original, but for reference, here's a head-on shot of some certainly original Seas 25F-EWX woofers. I built these around 1990.
Seas themselves might have altered some mechanical parts during the production run, but I'd be very surprised if they had altered the voice coil diameter and still called it the same driver.

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
Thanks for quick feedback!
Dmacri: It´s possible, but that dosen´t explain the different magnet.
I have tried gently to press on the cone on the noise making woofer, but I cant hear/feel anything of scraping sound. I dont know where the problem is, because the driver is only making a low volum brr brr sound when the woofer is in the cabinet and plays a low frequency sine wave. (In free air the brr brr noise disappears) Someone who experienced this before? What could be wrong to my woofer?
I know it´s not the cabinet who makes the noise because I have changed woofers and when the other driver plays in the same cabinet, the noise is gone.
Tournedos: Nice speakers you got there :) Yes, that looks like a 25F-EWX. Apparently they are in several versions visually, cause on your drivers you cant see the cord attached to the membrane.
I agree with the change in production parts, maybe it´s the same woofer, just look different.. But that´s annoying :P

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
Here's a shot of one of my woofers. Matches your "large" dust cap version I would say.
Current primary listening: SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
Blackrix: Yes, it would. I think actually that is the case
Now it´s all about getting a new seas driver(s) because it´s not 100% intact.(And I'm certainly not the only one looking for this, I think)
Anyone knows which speakerbrands/models were fitted with these seas 25F-EWX drivers other than the m70´s?
I think this is the way to get the replacements.
Thanks for the answers!

I think that Beovox S60's and S75's were fitted with the SEAS 25F-EWX, will have a look at mine when I get home from school

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
I did not read the OP close enough
As for using google, there isn't much knowledge around on the net about this topic. Most speaker users most likely never remove a driver, let alone read and write model numers down/taking pictures

Re: Beovox m70 woofer change
I have already tried google.. but continues to search for it. it's just easier to ask you on this forum
But if you don´t know, I guess I just have to look for some old seas kit, or generally old speakers. Perhaps I find what I´m looking for. Fingers crossed
