    Setup 7.0

Hello, some people will think it's completely overdone however. My current setup is Bv7-0 Mk5 and BL7.4 With front BL 9 and back BL 3. It,s a great setup however I have bought a new house with no neighbours and put in cabling for 7.0 setup. (I have mounted the 3 on the ceiling with STB brackets, looks lovelly!)

Ideally would be BL 5 front, In the middle BL 9 and at the rear BL 3. This was the original idea. I have looked at some posts but there are no people with such a setup? Even the cinema set at the dealer doesn' t have a setup 7.0 I believe.

I do want to put in a beamer or upgrade to a 7-55. Money can only be spend once but sound is much more important.

Isn't it just a waste of money to put in the BL 9 in the middle? Shouldnt I just upgrade the BL 9 to BL 5?

Thanks for all the replies, there is no point in just buying....

Wow. That's quite a nice set of speakers you have. Having BL5 fronts with BL9 speakers as surrounds is certainly decadent, but I would envy you!

I experienced exactly this setup in a Beostore near Copenhagen. It`s actually a 7.1 setup, because the LFE channel (.1) will be added to the front BL5s. So you don`t need an extra sub. You don`t have a "middle" channel. BL9s reproduce the rear channels, also called "surround" in 5.1 setups, used for athmos and sfx. BL3s are for the "back" channels, mainly used for athmos.

"Isn't it just a waste of money to put in the BL 9 in the middle? Shouldnt I just upgrade the BL 9 to BL 5?"

I wouldn`t call it "decadent". I would call it "consequent". You want matching speakers in a stereo setup, because you don`t want to experience tonal differences, especially in moving sounds like driving cars, flying helicopters etc.. And you don`t want these differences between - for example - front-left and rear-left. BL5 and BL3 sound different, especially in bass reproduction - we all know this. So the intention should be to build a setup with matching speakers. If you have BL5s in front, get BL9 or BL3 with BL2 for rear channels. Or again BL5 for rear...

BTW the 7.1 setup sounds awesome, even with 5.1 movies there seemed to be a difference between rear- and back channels....(?)

using your idea for balanced performance, and assuming there are budget limitations, what do you think of BL9s x 6 ?

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

There is no way I can afford 4x BL 5 or getting te wife spending so much cash;). It will be a used pair anyway. I do not have te room in the back as well, there are 2 doors which we use in the summer. That's why we put the BL 3 on the ceilling.

I have bought the labs 9 new and will not be trading them for a pair of BL5 after reading these posts.

Elephant 6x9 = 23k and if you look carefull for 4xBL5 it will be around the same money? Used then. BL 9 are a good investment they do not drop in value as hard as a BL 5 I think.

Yes. Will be a great setup I think. I would also be interested in listening to a 6x BL3 setup with BL2 LFE and BL7.4 center. Personally I would prefer 4x BL5 - maybe second life for just the same price - to build a 5.1 setup, because there is not so much 7.1 material on the market, and you will need a really large room for 7.1. In my experience a really well balanced system is BL5 as fronts with LFE set to "NO" ad BL10 for center, BL3 with BL2 extension for the rears.

    My 2,000th post :)

I am amazed, unless you mean the BL5s are second hand (don't think I have seen any second hand in Australia).

    Here the BL5s are AU$31,000 a pair, but the BL9s are AU$13,500 a pair.

So a set of six BL9s are "only" 33% more than two BL5s ... hence my question :)

Yup second life, they are in the market far longer then the BL 9 so if you look at the write off a pair of 9's doesn't depreciate as much as a set of BL 5. Second life you can get a pair of 9's for 4,5- 5k euro's and a pair of 5's for 9-10 K ( off course a bit older!). on the duch forum the are talking even less on the BL 5, but I have never spotted a pair under 8K

    (euro)

    Stefan,

Are you talking about 2x BL2?
