    Beomaster 2400-2 Problem

    The radio of my Beomaster 2400-2, purchased new in 1983, recently quit working, and one of the radio station lights is burned out.  Local repair shop quoted hudnreds of dollars to diagnose and repair.  I have all original matching components (turntable, CD player, cassette player) which still work.  It is just the radio portion of the Beomaster that is the problem.  I would love to have my complete system working again but I can't justify hundreds of dollars in repair costs.  Any thoughts?

    Re: Beomaster 2400-2 Problem

    Are any radio stations selectable i.e. when selecting stations do any bulbs light up? How about phono or tape? If not could just be bulbs that are blown as they are an integral part of the circuit no bulb = no selection. Talk to member Dillen for new bulbs you need to be happy with a soldering iron and dismantling though... Not a terribly difficult job.

    I have no radio reception at all.  4 of the 5 available radio station lights work, only one does not.  Attached turntable, tape and CD player all work fine.

    Re: Beomaster 2400-2 Problem

    Welcome to Beoworld!

    Forgive my asking, but what is the matching CD player?  Hmm

    I have a lamp and capacitor kit from Martin/Dillen that I never did use if you want to try replacing the lot on your own.

    "Several hundred dollars" sounds high.  $150 to $250 would not surprise me, though.  Benny Amina will charge you a bench fee of $50 in advance to look at it, then call you with a repair cost after diagnosis.  He's fixed my Beogram 4002 and Beomaster 4000, and I've purchased a retipped MMC4, all with excellent results.

    There are at least three other Beoworlders that I know of in Ohio.  If you're near Columbus, you may have local help (at least moral support) available.

    Current primary listening:  SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

    Any life from the tuner at all? i.e. stereo light / balance lights working any sort of noise?

    Rich's offer is very kind although I would hold back from a cap replacement until things work but that is me!

    Olly.

    Re: Beomaster 2400-2 Problem

    All of the lights work EXCEPT for the light behind the number '2', which should light when I press FM2.  I have a Beogram 2404 turntable hooked up to the Phono input, and a Beocord 2000 casette player, as well as a Beogram CD X  CD player, hooked up (via an intermediary switching unit) hooked up to the Tape input.  All of these components work fine.

    If I have not used the unit for a lengthy time period and attempt to use the radio, I get music for approximately 1 second and then it goes dead. I get nothing if I retry until waiting another extended period of time before trying again.  But, after waiting, I always only get a very, very brief bit of sound.

    I have not come across anything like this but if you PM Martin (member Dillen) he most probably has and will be able to give you further guidance.
