    BL 3500 issue

I wonder if anyone has any idea. My Beolab 3500 stopped working the other day - while I can select sources and when it switches, you can here the 'pop' as the amp switches on, but no sound comes out. I thought it was the ML 'Microcomputer' so I went away and changed that, but I still get the same effect. There doesn't seem to be any fuses within the speaker according to the wiring diagrams, so I'm a bit stumped!

Based on your description it sounds like the Beolab 3500 is not receiving the audio signal for some reason.

Prior to the unit stopping working had there been any changes to your configuration ?

Do you have a Mark II version of the Beolab 3500 ?

    Regards Keith....

    Re: BL 3500 issue

Funnily enough, the whole system (which has a lot in it) stopped working - I was away when it happened (As it always does) so something went awry.

I've taken the speaker down, used a new ML cable to the BL3500, and changed the microcomputer. The unit used to be a LCS9000, so I guess it isn't a MK2! I think the audio is getting to the speaker as it is a brand new cable, but with exactly the same fault.

OK, I am guessing that you had the LCS9000 upgraded by changing the micro processor which effectively makes it a Beolab 3500 Mark I

Is it possible that you had a power failure or a power dip (Brown out) when you were away ?

If so, then the whole Masterlink system may have restarted incorrectly. This assumes you are using the Masterlink rather than the MCL connection (DIN socket). To check it this is the case, switch all products on the Masterlink off at the mains plug of each device, wait 10 minutes and then switch everything back on again and see if you still have the problem.

    Regards Keith....

Unfortunately no solution. Still the same issue. The rest of the system is working fine - just the BL3500.

    Re: BL 3500 issue

Hi , I had a the same kind of problem with a 3500, it would (3 times) just stop working but that was traced down to the incoming signal on the co-ax (tv) cable.

I am with Keith on the audio signal idea. If you have the 3500 off the wall, bring into the same room as your source and run a short bit of masterlink between the two and it will at least eliminate your masterlink as being the problem.

    Re: BL 3500 issue

Yes, that's what I have done. Brand-new ML cable still no sound.

On turning up the volume on the unit to full volume, it doesn't hiss.

    Re: BL 3500 issue

If you have turned the volume up to maxmium and you cannot hear either humm or hiss, then either there really is no input or the amplifier or it's associated power supply could be faulty.

The other possible issue could be that it has switched back to MCL which was the default setting on a LCS9000. Check that you are sure that the unit is switched to Masterlink

To get into the service menu to switch between ML & MCL press MENU then MENU then 0 then 2 then PLAY, then use the up arrow to switch, then store

    Regards Keith....

    Re: BL 3500 issue

    Thanks,

No ML is working as I'm able to switch between sources. Sounds like it isn't a setup problem - probably have to get this into a repair shop. Any suggestions? All B&O stores near me subcontract to companies i've never heard of!

    Re: BL 3500 issue

Well, it does appear that your Beolab 3500 has a hardware fault most likely related to the Power amps supply voltage.

Almost all dealers sub-contract repairs to either B&O or one of the independent repair centres that you have never heard of.

At least if you have it repaired by the B&O dealer, they are then responsible for that repair, even if they do sub-contract the work.
