I am looking to buy a extra remote for my new BV7-40 3D tv but I cannot decide which model of Beo 4 to get, the choices are type 1625 or the 1710.

My setup  is quite straight forward besides the BV7 l have a Sky HD box, Humax box and a Beosound 5 all in the same room with 4xBL9's and finally a BL2. The BV7 was supplied with a Beo 6 remote.

I would be grateful for any advice you can give on my choice of 2nd remote and the reasons why.

if I could afford a new BV7 I would take the newest remote - ok I have to admit I do not know exactly the difference(s) between these 2 models but in most cases the modern version of a technical gear is to be preferred...and downwards compatible - the other way is always difficult to not possible (compared eg a BS9000 Mk1 and Mk3)

if your BV 7-40 has an inbuilt Blueray-player my choice would be 1710, because with a 1625 you always have to press the yellow arrow before a command.

The big difference between the Beo4 (162x) and the Beo4 (1710) is the so called Navigation button, which is like a little joystick to move Up, Down, Left, Right. It replaces the GO button from the 162x and features a Select functionality, too. Other than that the 1710 has a new button layout (e.g. Play and Back button).

As a general customer I wouldn't see a reason not to choose the newer remote, however, I think it is appropriate to warn you that the 1710 doesn't support all PUC files yet. So if you control your 3rd party boxes with PUC you should be sure that all of them are compatible with the 1710.

It's no problem ! You can always setup the new 1710 in mode "no navigation button" so all equipment that you can use 162x for you can use 1710 for in right mode including old PUC sw

But because of new button layout it can be problem if you have both 162x and 1710, because one of the avantage beo4 have is that you can do the most without look at it.

 

 

When you decide to order a newer Beo4, don't forget to tell the BV7 this.

Somewhere in the menu (I can't remember at the moment) you have to change the setting of the used Beo4. Otherwise you won't be able to use the little navigate joystick in the middle.
