i give Beovision 10-40 (5 months old) + stand + Beolab 3s +$2000 +beo 4.
i get Beolab 9 (in white) + Beovision 7-40 MKIII with stand (no center speakers) + beo 5.

I was going to go the other way around. Move from my BV7-40 MKIV to a BV10-46!
My opinion is that the MKIII has a dark screen and I was glad to get rid of my MKIII. I will admit I had two MKIII models and the first panel was far darker than the latter, but it's not a patch on the MKIV. Remember that the BV7-40 MKIII is quite old now. I've had my MKIV a couple of years now, so if you end up with an old MKIII panel, you may find it a lot darker than your much newer BV10-40. We're talking three years+ versus 5 months. Big difference in panel quality.
Also, and it's a personal choice, I wouldn't give up my BL3s. Top quality speakers. Why not just use your $2000 and get a BL11? That would bring your BL3s up to the BL9 level, easily.

Re: Needs Opinion on Trade
you have a good point there, in comparing the screen technologies.
I love those tiny BL3. To use a boxing reference "Pound for Pound" one of the most powerful speakers ive yet to come across with good bass too.
But i dunno i just a sucker for white BL9's. Hate them in black.
hmm... i leaning towards keeping my gear now

Re: Needs Opinion on Trade
It's probably a fair trade but IMO moving backwards in panel technology is not a good idea!
Any pre MKIV Bv7 has a really dark screen and would be a backward step for you.
My advice - Keep everything you have, and save some peenies for a set of Lab 9s if you really want some :)

Plus the old MKIII screen is a 50Hz (the MKIV introduced a 100Hz panel) and the latter BV10s have a 200Hz refresh rate. This really does make a big difference when watching sport or fast-moving movies (and most of them are fast-moving these days!).
When I upgraded from the MKIII to the MKIV, this was a big panel jump. Faster refresh, much brighter screen, much better blacks etc.
Isn't the latest/forthcoming BV7-40 (with 3D) a MKVI (MK6) panel? I know there's been at least one major panel refresh since my MKIV.

One other important point - you need a centre (7.4) speaker. When I had my BL9s connected to my BV7, I went a few days without a centre speaker. Sound was very weird. Added the 7.4 (which isn't cheap) and the sound was much much improved. So, you'd need to factor in a 7.4 sooner rather than later.

Re: Needs Opinion on Trade
Remember that the bv7 houses an $8k processor as well The bv10 does not. And the 9s are far superior to the 3sI would take that trade all day long. And I love the bv10. But it's not quite the building platform that a bv7 is.
I'm ready for something new that I actually want to buy!

If you can live with the old dark MKIII panel, sure. The panel makes the TV experience. You can't swap out the panel :)
The BS3 part of the BV7 is only useful if you want to run other stuff such as projectors or a 7.1 setup. Most people do not (and, frankly, if you could afford the projector, 7.1 setup etc, why would you consider an old MKIII anyhow? You could afford a current BV7!).

Re: Needs Opinion on Trade
I would not trade for a Mark III because it has Mark I System 3 and a 60hz panel.

Re: Needs Opinion on Trade
What the difference between the Beosytem 3 mark 1 and 2?
A Beovision 10-40 in black and red fret on order, Beo4, Beo6, many A8's, a pair of white and yellow Form 2's, Beocom 4, 28 inch Avant RF DVD, Apple TV and a wife that loves this stuff as much as i do!
