    Beogram 4000 differences throughout production?

I just wondered if anyone knew of differences throughout the production of the Beogram 4000 over the years it was produced?

The reason I ask is that I have just taken delivery of my second 4000 and the aluminium strip along the top of the lid is noticeable different to my previous 4000. It is actually a metallic sticker with the B&O text on it whereas my older unit (I believe) had an actual metal strip.

Also the text is alot bolder!

    Any other differences?

I will post some pics later this evening...

    Yes.

The last Beogram 4000 had a different bearing, actually the one of the '6000 and early '4002!

To complicate things further, my 4000 is one of the last ones with the new bearing, but the alu strip is metal!

Haha! Odd! It would be logical that the metal strip when from being metal to the tape style to lower the cost of production but I guess the flip side would be that it started out as tape and Bang & Olufsen realised this was not reliable long term so changed it for a more robust strip!?

    Anyone else noticed this before?

I can confirm that my beogram 4002 has a plastic strip.

I guess B&O used whatever parts they had to build (clear?) the last Beogram 4000 decks, while they were already producing the 4002... or something like that!

The metal strip markings have become brown on my deck.

    I have been servicing 7-8 4000-series decks. 2 4000's and 5-6 late 4002/4004's.

My own 4000 came with the original SP15 pickup, with the accessory-box and graphs of performance and stamp of quality etc. It dates 13th September 1973 Smile

Both 4000's have a strip with the original B&O logo (by appointment to the Royal Danish Court) and is darker finished than all the strips on the 4002 where the text is bigger and bolder. There is a demonstration video on youtube of a 4000 with the bold style lettering.

Both of my 4000's have the tape strip.

ALL of my 4002/4's have the metal strip.

What are the differents between the Tape and the Metall-Strip's?

My Beogram 4002 from the latest series has a Metall-Strip, i guess... Unfortunally it is scratched and defect. How can i replace the Metall-Strip?

I'm lucky, i've won a MINT SP15 from 1974 incl. box and all papers!

Ah! My MMC20CL complete with tools and papers etc. cost me £30!

I've been told by someone (very) knowledgeable that the plastic strips were possibly designed by B&O to replace the alu strips when the covers were repaired.
