OT: New year's eve in London
Hi guys,
As previously told a few weeks ago, my wife and I will be in London with members of my family for the new year's eve.
But we don't know where to have a dinner in London for this so special event.
We don't want something for tourists where the food is expensive even if it's s**t in our plates.
We would like something where london guys and gals like to get together for this special evening.
So could you guys help me?
Thanks in advance.

Re: OT: New year's eve in London
Sorry you feel my topic isn't proper.
But, to me, I thought that Beoworld was a community before being only a B&O forum...
I should have posted this topic in another section.
To mod, could you please delete my topic if unproper? I'll move it to another section.
Thanks.
Cheers,

I guess the Beoworld People & LifeStyle is the most appropriate for non-B&O lifestyle questions?

Koning get over yourself! This is what I really hate about this site, some people are so nasty on it!
Edouard, I shall ask my friends for you. NYE is always a little crazy here in London and finding a table for NYE could be a little difficult. I hope you have a really fabulous time.
All the best...

Like Edouard highlighted in his title "OT"! There have been many 'OTs' before so why the problem? Just do not read it if it does not interest you. Not exactly dominating the page and leaving no room for other posts is it?
Enjoy London, it will be crazy

Hi Leslie,
Ok, I won't forget your offer I'll contact you if my wife and I come to your country...We don't know this country yet, so it's in our wishlist!
Cheers,

No problem Moxxey, I transfered my OT to non-B&O lifstyle section.

Hi and thanks for your offer Paul,
Yes I think it's gonna be terrific, but as you mention, very hard to find a good table for NYE.
Hope we're lucky to find something nice and fun.

Hi Vienna,
As Netherland, we don't know Austria too... Think Vienna and your country are wonderful. I won't forget to let you know if we're planning a trip close to you.

Hi Jonnie,
Thanks mate! I think my family and I will have a very good time in London!
Even if I mentionned O T in my title, I think I should have posted it in the lifestyle section.
As I really wanted my BeoFriends to help me, I posted in the general section...MEA CULPA
Cheers

Re: OT: New year's eve in London
Edouard, it is sooo hard recommending food to a guy in the South of France - c'mon man, you are famous for it ;) Anyway the place that I tend to frequent and indeed take all of my friends and indeed radio clients is Mosaica. It's actually partly owned by Labyrinth - a real top guy who is a young music producer here in the UK and works with Tinnie Tempur. I love the food, young service and indeed vibe of the place. It's a really sociable classy but funky place - id say early 20s to mid 40s age. Heres a YouTube video of it. And yes, you can view it in HD ;)

Also TIME OUT magazine have a really goood list here...

Hope that gives you inspiration.

Re: OT: New year's eve in London
This was indeed off topic in the General forum, but passable under the People & Lifestyle charter. Since this thread had a number of replies already, I opted to move this and delete the other one (with no replies yet).
Go ahead, and remember that as of now, any discussion on the off-topicness of this thread is off topic!

Marseille is 450 km away from Toulouse (where I live).
But I know this very nice city!

Hi Mika,
What do you mean? Have I been rude or complaining about members talking about the off-topicness of my topic?
I moved my thread promptly, before you did, when I found, with the help of Koning and Moxxey, that my post wasn't in its right place.

Of course you haven't been rude, Edouard! But you started another thread (which I deleted), while you could've just waited for the moderators to move this one. That just doubles the clutter.
Can we please now just discuss only New Year's eve in London under this topic No reply needed to this post.

Re: OT: New year's eve in London
EdouardG: We would like something where london guys and gals like to get together for this special evening.
I have been thinking of where we used to eat in London when we were there ... and I was reminded that someone once made the joke that the English have never been famous for a national dish !
So our favourite restaurants were picked on the basis of the food we liked, to some extent the decor, but definetly the ambiance - we generally like eating somewhere small and comfortable.
So I can recommend Thai, Brazilian, Mexican, Hungarian, etc
The classic English restaurant we went to was "Simpsons on the Strand" but that was as much for its history as for its very English roast beef carvery
http://www.simpsonsinthestrand.co.uk/history.php
But in reality there is so much to choose from !
So what food tastes are your family into ?
And what atmosphere do you want ?
First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Thanks a lot Elephant!
We don't have particular food tastes.
But as we're in London, we would like something like british food...It would be a shame, imo, to look for some french or italian cuisine as we are in England. I'm sure there are plenty of great french or italian restaurants in London, but as we're in England, we would like to test the british cuisine.
About the atmosphere, something cosy but not noisy.
PS: Nice tatoo

Re: OT: New year's eve in London
You could at least make a good start to the new ear here..
http://www.fortnumandmason.com/
http://www.greigs.com/index.html
http://www.english-restaurants.com/english/
And don't write off the new "gastro" pubs which have sprung up..
http://www.thecrownandtwochairmenw1.co.uk/
http://www.thewhitehartwaterloo.co.uk/
http://www.thecharleslambpub.com/
http://www.thecadoganarmschelsea.com/
http://www.harwoodarms.com/ (one of the best)
http://www.thebullandlast.co.uk/
http://www.thebritanniapub.co.uk/
If i was you and you wanted something authentic try any of these gastro pubs.

we discovered this one in the last week of our time in the UK ... back then the food was good, than range of beers enticing, and the history fantastic
named after a certain ship that set sail from there
