    Beocenter 7700, remote control problem

I just inherited this magnificent Beocenter 7700 from my father, now 91 years old. He has had the unit for close to 30 years, and he cannot remember ever having a remote control for the unit. The turntable and the tuner/amplifier work fine, I have not yet tried the cassette deck.

But I would like to use a remote with it, more specifically a Logitech Harmony One. The Harmony One has the Beocenter 7700 in its library, but when programmed, there is absolutely no response from the Beocenter 7700. (I use the Harmony One for all my other equipment)

My question is: were all Beocenter 7700's delivered with remote capability, or was that an option? If so, what could be wrong, the InfraRed diode?

Is the IR diode located just below the "BEOCENTER 7700" logo? The "Remote Switch" underneath is set to the ON position.

Any suggestion is very much appreciated!!!

Yes, the three round domes under the BEOCENTER 7700 logo on the left side of the unit contain the IR diodes. And as the REMOTE SWITCH is ON, the system should work with a remote - I don't know if any BC7700 were ever delivered without the remote control capability.

I have the original remote for BeoCenter 7700 (the small terminal), but I don't know if it works. I can probably test it on a BeoCenter 7700 coming Sunday, so if you need an original remote I might have one for you by then!

    Welcome to BeoWorld!

Per Blackrix... look for the original, perhaps his!

On the Logitech front -I wouldn't completely trust the code from their site in the case of the older, pre-BL1000 coded B&o.

In these instances it would be best to use the LEARN command with an original controller, which you don't have...

If you would like to read more, I did have success programming Harmony devices in this manner IN THIS THREAD.

I'll add - if your BC7700 isn't responding to commands I have a working IR receiver module if you want it.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

I got my hands on a Logitech Harmony 525, and tried it with Logitechs web-library codes for Beocenter 7700: no response whatsoever from the Beocenter.

In addition, I tried with my Beomaster 5000 as well (with Beomaster 5000 codes) and same here: Harmony libraries for these oldies at least are non-functional.

    See my last post...

I would not trust the site libraries.

I would trust using the "LEARN" feature, as I have got the Harmony to work with the mentioned Beo.

    Blackrix,

Are there several remotes available for the BC7700? You mentioned a "small terminal". I thought the only remote was the Master Control Panel 7700.

In the meantime, I have successfully programmed the Harmony to control a BeoMaster 3500.
