    Beolink ACTIVE IR EYE wiring..

I've got to run an IR (hockey puck) eye for about 60 feet....I've got regular CAT 6 .....NOT the STP...just regular  CAT 6.....

The IR eye has 4 wires connected for the Active Kit....

Can I just use the CAT 6 for the runs??

    Thanks,

    Keith

I don't think you can do that, the cable for the eye is a special low capacity cable, comes in 5 and 15 m (15 and 90 feet I think). 5 wires.

hmm, I would for sure give it a try before placing it. Just solder the plug on the wire and mount the IR on it, just to see if it works. Cat6 is low on capacity.

Yes, I kown my spelling is horrible… Huh?

Marcus...you're our CAT 6 hero........any idea if I could use a CAT6 normal (not STP) to wire in an IR (hockey puck) eye....????

     Thanks, K

Using the normal wire, no more than 5m is recommended. To use more, the low capacity receiver cable, part number 6270668, is available up to 15m. Details in the ML handbook which is on site,

    Hi Keith,

many thanks for the laurels :-) but unfortunately I have absolutely no experience with the IR eye. Had a BL active some time ago, but as it has been lying around for some years I sold it, so I have no material to do a test :(

Do you have some spare cat6 cable to make a test?

Sorry that I can't be of much help here....

Thanks guys for all the help......

Does anyone know if CAT6 is "low capacity" similar to the cited BO part number??

    Thanks, Keith

    Keith,

I think your biggest issue with using any of the CAT cables is that they are twisted pairs intended for balanced digital signals to reduce noise.

The cable which goes to the IR contains parallel stranded wires of low capacity. If you were to use 6 core alarm cable in my view you should be just OK. A typical example is alarm cable found at Maplins which you can see HERE

    Regards Keith....

If it is any help, I am using one connected with 15m of regular cable - although only +5v, signal and ground connected.
