BeoCenter 9500 -- displays 'Code' in upper right

Hello, looking for a little help.  My BeoCenter 9500 has been in storage for a good 6 years.  A few days ago I go to turn it on and the word 'Code" is displayed and it does not funtion.  I read somewhere that its a error message  for a bad  battery and it must be replaced.  I also read that the 9500 does not have a battery but a microprocessor module, part no. 8001130 that must be replaced.  Which one should I be looking for, ?.

Also could someone dirrect me to the location of the processor or battery.  I have the unit opened up like the manual says.  Also where to get the part to fix it if it is a microprocessor.

    thanks for your time:

The battery is inside the CPU module, no need to replace the whole thing. It's a 3V lithium cell (whose type you might find out by searching on the forums, I can't remember it). It is soldered in place - get a new cell with solder lugs, it'll explode on your face if you try to solder on a regular button cell directly.

Take some necessary ESD precautions, or you might be looking for a new CPU module after all...

Finally, the code needs to be reset and you'll find the answer to that on the FAQ section of this site.

thanks a lot.  I got the location on the battery.  There is even a sticker on the silver box saying a battery in inside.  I will open it up this afternoon and post back with a update.

    thanks again.

okay, changed out the battery and ready to enter code.   I read 'Using a Beolink 1000 press:1271'   wait 3 seconds and unplug power.

I do not have a beolink 1000, not sure what type I have, it looks more like a Beo4 but on the back it has 11 buttons, 'shift, program, control, turn store, clear,v record, a record, rec start, rec stop and return. It was the remote I was given when I purchased it new back in 94'.

When i go to enter the numbers 'no contact' is displayed on the remote.  Do I need a beolink 1000 or ? will mine work.

    thanks:

I never had a Beolink 5000 myself, but I think you might need to configure it to one-way mode for this to work (so that it will behave as a Beolink 1000).

Are the numbers '1271' supposed to appear where the word 'code' is displayed, ?

Well, unfortunately all I know is what I read in here.

But I wouldn't be suprised if there were no feedback at all while keying the code. If your Beolink 5000 complains with "NO CONTACT" while you try to key the numbers, it probably isn't sending them right.

That is all I know also, just that one link.

Try the one-way setup of the remote first then for keying the code - here's the relevant page of the Beolink 5000 manual. Configure it back to two-way mode later, if the Beocenter starts working.

If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas...

EDIT: the second button from the top is "SHIFT", it's a bit hard to read on the pic.

Check this off the list and thanks for the help.  A B$O store is actually in my city so I took my 9500 on down and with their beo1000 remote, pressing 'radio' 1271  - 3 seconds unplug, 3 seconds plug in and we are back in action.   While entering the 1271, there is no feedback on the display.

The battery that needs to be changed is a CR2450, about $6US.

My 5000 remote did not work for the reset so a 1000 is needed.

Good to hear - thanks for posting the outcome.

You probably won't need to do this again for another 15 years Smile
