More and more I've noticed that B&O prices on Ebay are going down! What's happening?

That's eBay..
We make next to nothing on our eBay sales on the whole. It just moves old and overage stock on to keep it from cluttering up our warehouse.
eBay has become synonymous with the word 'bargain' these days - so paying the going rate is a no-no.
My two cents worth, minus commission and PayPal fees - which equates to about one cent...

This is something from the last half year. I've been following Ebay intensively for the last two years but what's happening now is weird! Small parts and collectors items are still profitable to sell but the rest....Must be recession as Mika mentioned!
Let's follow this item and see how that ends. Hopefully this seller gets more luck.

I was checking on a 6 CD B/O demo set and a BL 5000 Amp. CDs went for USD 240.00 the Amp for more or less the same, 2 days before the BM 5000 belonging to the Amp went for over USD 500.00
Beosound 3000, BL 4000, BL 8000, BG 2404,BG 5000, BG CD50, Beocord 5000, BM 901, BM 2400, BM 4000, BV S45, BV 3702. There is nothing we cannot do, but a lot of things we don't want to do!!

supply and demand?
Perhaps most collectors have their pieces now so no competition, price drops?
I always try to operate using/following the KISS principle -- Keep it simple stupid!

I believe the US market is completely different due to low supply, and can't be compared with what happens in Europe.
I haven't really been watching eBay lately, but I'm beginning to
see the same trend locally. Lots of stuff has appeared on sale, but not
that many bidders (not being helped by mostly unrealistic starting
prices, though).
Also, time flies, people age, and so do the products... Those Beolab
4500s that started this thread are now about 30% older than they were
when I joined Beoworld!
Perhaps not the best example on what I'm trying to say, but they are
getting too old to interest the general buying public, whereas "modern"
products will always have enough interested bidders to create a
competition. Hard to get a bargain on a pair of Beolab 8000s for example, unless the listing is "faulty" in some way (pickup only in an odd location, no seller feedback, ...).

I've been watching U.S. Ebay pretty closely for about a year now. Almost every day (yes, I know, "get a life") I search for "olufsen" and get about 850 hits. Of these, a good 2/3 are ads, manuals, cables and of little interest. So, some 200 to 300 decent pieces are for sale in the U.S. any given day.
The good pieces seem to be selling for decent prices still. Other not-so-desirable pieces aren't selling at all for what listers are asking.
One thing that occurred recently that I thought was curious: One seller was selling his Beomaster 5000 tuner-only and his legendary Beolab 5000 amplifier in separate auctions. The tuner went for $550 or so, and the amplifier went for $250 or so. I thought that was backwards.
Current primary listening: SMMC20EN -> BG4002 -> BM4000 -> Beovox M70

Me too, but that gives me hope cause I've got 3 of those

That is interesting.
It is also good news for me, because I only want the amp! I would have zero use for the tuner.

Rich: I search for "olufsen" and get about 850 hits.
Rich,
Searching just 'Olufsen' you may be missing a few interesting listings perhaps. For example, quite a lot of people listing equipment they are not very familiar with will sometimes mis-spell Olufsen by typing 'Olufson' or 'Olfsen' etc. In which case, your Olufsen search might miss these...
On UK ebay I just search 'Bang' under category 'Consumer Electronics' because even the thickest of people can (usually) manage to spell 'Bang' correctly

Searching on "Bang" results in too many "best bang for the buck" hits here in the United States.
Plus, if the seller can't be bothered with spelling Olufsen correctly, I don't want to buy from them anyway.

In Scandinavia a lot of B&O 'traffic' (?) is via local auction sites such as auktionskompaniet.se (part of Bukowkis), Tradera.se (part of eBay) and Lauritz.com (Nordics + GER and UK) and I must say that prices seems to be still reasonable.
I would say that the latest trend(s) on eBay for a buying perspective are interesting but from a selling perspective are plain horrible.
I also search for 'Bang' on these site and also under different catagories. Furniture is a good catagory to find some nice thingies.
Looking at my BV10 (which is not in use 95% of the time) .. I am glad it also works well -almost- as a piece of furniture :o)

ben73: a lazy seller??
Hmmmm...yes certainly a very lazy listing indeed! using the stock photo and just lifting the description like that, with no mention of condition etc.
I guess for 250Euro that would be a real bargain, so long as the CD mechanism works ok, and the general condition of the machine was good. Without the CD working though, remember its a large radio/cassette unit and would barely be worth 100Euro
Regards
Michael

Not if you've got a spare CD mechanism lying around
