    BeoVision Avant Picture Tube Problems

In my search for a used Avant I've come across a couple of sets fitted with new picture tubes. As this is quite an expensive repair, how do I know which Avants, if any, to avoid? Do I look for certain serial numbers, years of production, 28/32 inch?

As far as I'm aware the later generation Avants fitted with RF (real flat) screens aren't as susceptible to tube problems.Smile

There is a counter to show how many hours the set has been on that may give an indication.

There were problems to start with - I seem to remember the 28" had particular problems. However they tended to present relatively early and so this fault should not be an issue so much now. These days you want to look at the hours used, as suggested by Kevin, as tubes will eventually get tired. This goes for all sets. The Avant is a pretty reliable set and should give many years of service. If mine breaks tonight, I will however blame you!Laughing

Hope the 2005/2006 Avants are OK because I just bought one for my Mum a week ago!

Where do I find the counter?

Press menu then setup (5) then 0 0 and go you will see the monitor option and there the service counters. Do not change anything!!! in this section.

At your own risk but hope this helps.Yes

    Hello,

Are there reference times of use which can be found in the service menu?

I mean what is little use, what is much use and what is too much use..?

I heard that the picture tube of the Avant has a kind of preset limitation. That it dies after a certain time of use? Is this true? After how much time?

    The one I have has:

    Standbye: Almost 3000 days
    Audio: Only 15 days
    Video:  Almost 1000 days
    On/Off x 10:  More then 1000

There is not a preset limitation, they last as long as they last.  A picture tube has an expected life of around 30,000 hours, this of course does vary alot and should be used as a guide and nothing else.  Based on your service counters your tube has had 24,000 hours worth of use, so has had a very good run.
