    New 7-40 - any word?

From previous threads i was expecting a new 7-40 to have been released already. Anyone have any news and whether it would be full LED like the 7-55?

It`s the 3D-Version. But isn`t also the new 7-55 "only" direct LED backlit with screen type 55" 16:9 TFT LCD, glare surface???

For the specs of BV7 - 40", the new catalogue states that the panel has been updated. It is now an edge-lit LED LCD, with LEDs on two edges of the panel. The total number of edge-LEDs is stated to be 144. So it does not have the direct LED backlight as the 55" model has. My guess is that it uses the same edge-LED panel as the recent BV10 models do.

I Am feeling quite disappointed that the BV7-40 has not the same picture technology as the BV7-55. What is the reason for me to buy this and not the cheaper BV10? I know it is the BS3 inbuilt. The 7-55 is still the best LCD ever seen and the little brother should be as good as it, just smaller..

Re: New 7-40 - any word?

But I also thought the new BV7-40 3D would be a 16:9 TFT LCD direct type LED backlight, local dimming divided into zones, scanning backlight??? Or will B&O realise the 3D technologie with its old 40" 16:9 TFT LCD, glare surface cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL)?

    I`m confusedHmm

I am afraid that I don't know the answer to this question.

I do know, that B&O will select what they feel is the most appropriate panel currently available for the 3d BV7-40.

Surely at that point you go to your dealer and have a look at the picture quality, and hopefully you will agree with the engineers that the picture will be fantastic.  If it is, and you can justify the cost then you buy it.  If not, then you don't.

Any screen fitted will be chosen for it's viewing properties, not a specific technology that is or isn't used, and of course will meet all requirements for power consumption etc.  I honestly can't think of a single reason why a buyer would care whether it's local or edge dimming, or even CCFL as long as the picture is as good as it can be based what is currently available.

I'm quite sure the BV 7-40 will get a new panel. But the question is if Samsung has a 40 inch panel available with the technologie of the BV 7 55 inch panel. If not, B&O will use the best 40 inch panel from Samsung (I hope so).

Re: New 7-40 - any word?

That is unfortunate as I was hoping for the backlit LED technology, as from what I have seen from other vendors it is superior to LED edge lit. I did see the 7-55, and while it looked wonderful, it is far too large and dominates the room in my opinion.

My understanding is that there is no change to the panel except the addition of the 3d function when I spoke to the dealer

My dealer told me a few weeks ago that the BV 7-40 3D will get a new panel but he didn't know the specs.

But KMA had seen the specs in the new catalogue, so let us believe these specs are true.

I have not the new catalogue but B&O should update their website with the specs of BV 7-40 3D very soon.

I also hope they use the panel type that offers the best possible picture quality on a 40 inch tv, because the BV 7-40 is not the cheapest tv on the market!

I can not find any mention of 3D??? But should be the latest version, arriving soon, because "old" panel has had Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) as BACKLIGHT TYPE.

I had to double-check this: 3D is mentioned ONLY in the specs for the 55" version, and 3D is also mentioned in the product description of that model elsewhere in the catalogue. There is no mention of 3D in the specs or description for the 40" model -- none whatsoever. So is the 40" model undergoing another panel change soon? Now first CCFL to edgeLED panel, and later to a 3D panel? It would be rather peculiar to have 2 new Mk's of 7-40" in a short period of time... It would mean that if you buy one now, you get the edgeLED version, but no 3D, but a little later you might also get 3D.

To my recollection, didn't B&O state that they consider 55" to be the minimum size for a screen to really benefit from 3D? I could remember this inaccurately, but it would go towards explaining why the next Mk of 7-40" is not 3D, even though it has undergone (or is undergoing) the panel change mentioned in the new catalogue.

Perhaps the new panel is 3D-ready already, but the feature -- which requires active shutter glasses with the 55" model and therefore the sync signal transmission component built-in the set --  is not enabled with the 40" model.

I guess those wanting 7-40" with 3D will have to wait for the official word and clarification from B&O...

i certainly read somewhere Bang andOlufsen saying 55 the minimum but the ideal is 85 for 3d

Re: New 7-40 - any word?

This is all sounding very disjointed. 3D or no 3D, unclear technology path, unclear differentiation between future 7-40 and BV10 series, dealers who are unclear what will be available, the surreal customer experience at stores (at least in the US), catalogue not matching web site, lack of messaging on availability date (when it is already out in the open that something is coming out), sarcastic dealership employees....this is a company in bad need of a marketing VP (apologies to existing B&O Consumer Marketing VP if there is one)...oh please hire me, it would be so much fun to fix this...

That's true. But the new catalogue is now online and in the specs of 7-40 3D is still not mentioned, only the new panel.

    Very confusing and poor marketing!

Re: New 7-40 - any word?

I visited my well-informed dealer today: The 7-40" is listed as 3D in the dealer system. The info most likely did simply not make it to the latest catalogue in time of print.

It is apparent that a lot of swift changes are taking place at B&O, driven by Tue, which is a good thing for B&O.
