Form 2's worth it or not?

    hey guys!

im thinking about purchasing some Form 2 headphones. B&O quetly updated them recently with 4 new colours but i think i shall just go for the black ones. in terms of sound clarity how good is it cause im not a person who gives a huge deal about how much bass headphones have. i do have a pair of EerSet 3i and i love them so much!

I think headphone choice is such a personal thing you should just listen to several brands and models around your budget and pick whats right for you.

I guess that advice stands for just about any home entertainment equipment but the only important opinion is yours.

The fact that they have been in production for 25 years suggests that Form 2's must have something going for them.

So not much help there then Hmm

i have found that B&O are the best in sound in my opinion. i watched the 85 inch BeoVision 4 yestarday. And i was completely blown away by it! and i love my EarSet 3i and my BeoSound Ouverture. And soon im getting an Avant. i think i shall get them as a christmas present Big Smile

What type of device will you be listening to with your Form 2s? I ask because they could benefit from more power than an iPod can offer.

If you are an Earset 3i fan, beware, the sound will be markedly different. I have both A8s and Form 2s and I hugely prefer the A8s. The A8s are much brighter (for the better).

Overall, they aren't very practical really. Compared to the A8s, they are less comfortable, sound worse and are fragile.

If you are a collector, go for it. All of this aside, I still take my Form 2s out a couple times a week and enjoy them! They just aren't a serious choice these days, that's all.

EDIT: I realize that this wasn't very helpful either! Laughing Your dealer should have one out for demo that you can listen to for yourself Smile

They definately need more power than an Ipod etc can provide. I use mine with an Imac, and for general listening and internet radio they are comfortable and a good all rounder.

A Beovision 10-40 in black and red fret on order, Beo4, Beo6, many A8's, a pair of white and yellow Form 2's, Beocom 4, 28 inch Avant RF DVD, Apple TV and a wife that loves this stuff as much as i do!

I used them only in the office with my Ipad, it is comfortable really light on your head.

I tried them as day-to-day headphone, but in the bus or in the street, simply forget it, not powerfull enough for ipod or iphone listening, and you will ear everything exept your music....

    Hope it helps

I forgot to mention - for this very reason, I am designing and building a Burr Brown based headphone amp. Something to keep me entertained while all of my B&O kit is down.

Yo Evan get a pair of BEATS! They are awesome! Plenty of volume with the iPod/iPhone

Re: Form 2's worth it or not?

I use form 2's with my PC & really rate them for this type of application. Very lightweight & you can wear them for hours without even noticing. I personally prefer them to A8's because I really don't like anything stuck in my ears & find them really annoying very quickly. Not good for anyone with a fat head though...

    Chris.

The use of metaphors should be avoided like the plague. They're like a red rag to a bull to me.

CJM1   it's obviously down to opinion. I had the A8's and found them a total disgrace in sound along with poor quality cable and plug. For me they had zero bass.

We use BEATS at most of our radio stations now here in the UK and we love them. It's obviously down to personal opinion and of course music taste.  An example is my old B&O Century in a spare bedroom in my apartment. Sounds good for middle of the road easy music or classical but try and play dance music and it is lifeless, dead sounding with no involvement.

Dr Dre headphones do not review well independently - see here

However I would suggest always listening for oneself and these are readily available. I would suggest however a nice pair of Sennheissers - my HD600s are wonderful - far better than any B&O set. Comfortable and I find the volume ok even with an iPod.

Re: Form 2's worth it or not?

I have owned and used regularly a pair of A8's for 11 years and they have served me well. The Form 2 headphone offers a much deeper sound than the A8. Beats have been well marketed (like Bose) and for a company that specialised in only four styles of headphones to be worth more than B&O all together recently when sold off is quite an achievement. What this space with B&O, you never know who might be the face of the new B&O headphones, maybe Sir Tony Blackburn?!?

Form 2 was my first B&O purchase. They are fantastic, so much better than the A8. The only disadvantage I can see is they are not very portable but they really are superb.

Re: Form 2's worth it or not?

I grabbed my Form 2s this morning and had a great day listening to them.

Enjoyable as they may be, I feel they could use a power boost giving them some more dynamic range.

I will be taking them with me tomorrow as well Smile
