    Q:  Dude, where's my BC1900?

A:  It's hooked up to your BM1900 out in the garage.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

Q:  Cool, dude.  So it works?

A:  Nope.  Rewinds and fast forwards, but when you press play, it just stops immediately and kicks the piano key "play" button back up.

Q:  Bummer.  But it's cosmetically perfect?

A:  Nope.  Dig this awful scratch through the piano keys.

    Q:  So you got ganked?

A:  Pretty much.  But I'll make the best of it.  You win some, you lose some.

Q: Are you going to ship it to Benny ?

A: I'm still thinking about that.

Just checked on the BG 6500, where you also answered, the BG seams OK, but then I checked the other items, no good pics no good descriptions, that when I get a bad feeling and back of. Sorry for your BC DudeSad

I'm going to try to fix her myself.  Opening up a Beocord will be a first for me.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

    Q.  So how's the repair going?

    A.  Well, I went out to the garage this morning to start the fix.  Took a cassette of Lenny Kravitz's Greatest Hits with me.  As I noted before, fast forward and rewind worked, but play did not.  I was going to try to document the behavior of the deck before I took it apart.  I put the Lenny tape in and rewinded it.  No problem.

Then pressed play.  And it worked.  And sounded great.  For the whole first side.

    Hmm

    Q.  That's strange.  Deck looks nice, too.

    A.  Yeah, spent five minutes on it with a Goof Off sheet.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

    Q.  Too bad about the scratch on the "piano keys."

    A.  Yeah, well, that "scratch" turned out to be a streak of dirt.

    Q.  Wow.  If I didn't know any better, I'd say you had "The Dumb" on Monday when you hooked the deck up.

    A.  No kidding.  Maybe I was stoned.

    Q.  You don't do that any more.

    A.  Oh, yeah.  Right.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

    Q.  So the deck turned out to be flawless?

    A.  No.  Tried to play a recording of Led Zeppelin II I'd made on my BC2400, and it wouldn't play without stopping every few seconds.

    Q.  What next then?

    A.  Guess I'm going to tear it apart and see what's what anyway.  Just not this morning.

The Friendly Local Used Record Store has countless cassettes in addition to CDs, LPs, 45s, DVDs, laserdiscs, VHS tapes, etc.

Picked up three today (cassettes are $4 each or 3 for $10).  So far, the BC1900 has played the Rolling Stones' Tattoo You just fine.  In fact, it sounds rather great!

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

Made some progress this weekend on the garage Beosystem.

    1. Opened up the BC1900, cleaned out the 30 years of dust, and cleaned the tape path.  Most everything looked to be in pretty good shape, so I put her back together without doing anything else.  I tried six or seven tapes and they all played.  And she sounds great.
    2. I had enough spare computer parts sitting in boxes in the garage to slap a Windows 7 system together, so I did.  I didn't have a proper monitor, but I had a 6" television also out in the garage.  I mounted that behind a picture frame and stuck it up on the wall.  I did need to buy a networking cable and a keyboard and mouse, though.  I still need an optical drive, thus the hole in the front of the new PC.
    3. I also had a selector switch lieing in a box, so screwed that into the side of the Beo stand.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

The motherboard, CPU, video card, and sound card for this build date back to a build I did in 2005, right after I moved to Florida from Michigan.  It's a Pentium 4 at 3.0 GHZ with 2 gigs of RAM and Windows 7.  It runs iTunes just fine.  That's all I'm caring about right now.

Nice hole in the front, huh?  Optical drive coming from Newegg sometime this week.

Tiny, tiny monitor using the built-in magnifier of Windows 7 to be able to actually read text in iTunes.

    Re: Dude, where's my BC1900?

An unused selector switch screwed into the side of the table.  High level sources - PC and BC1900 so far - wired to tape input of BM1900.
