    Beolab 3 vs Beolab 9

I think about getting a Beolab 11 to match the 3's. Is that a wise descision, or should a pay a little more and get a second hand pair of Beolab 9's? The price is not that far away. (if you consider the value of the beolab 3's and 11 together).

The Beolab 9 seems like a 3 with a bigger subwoofer?

Personally i'd go for the BL3's with BL11 as I think BL9's and BL5's are very very ugly speakers but hey, that's just my opinion. BL3's are quite iconic

You need to have a listen at a dealer - in my view, the BL9 wins hands down - the only possible issue will be if there is too much bass if you live in an apartment, when the BL11 would be more popular with your neighbours.

Give the BL9 a listening at your local dealer or better, if possible to test them for a weekend. In my optionen is the BL9 the much better choice. At higher volume, the BL3 sounds a little "stressed".

i must say that I also think that the 9's are not the most beautiful design, but in the end it's the sound that matters most for me. I prefer classical music, and acoustic music. Both have the same tweeter I think? So the difference must be in the midrange/woofer?

Possible advantages of the BL3 + BL11 combo are mounting alternatives, and the ability to move the subwoofer around to optimize the sound.  In my world, everything on the floor ends up scuffed or worse.

The Beolab 9 is very fine for classical music and also other kinds of music. If the bass is to strong the speakers can be placed away from the corners and the back wall and settings set to "corner". They still have the deep bass (about 30 hz) and the upper bass (about 60 hz) is then lower.

Re: Beolab 3 vs Beolab 9

Only have heard the BL11 once and decided to buy the BL2 (combo with BL8002). Even for music the BL11 did not sasify me, but my wife always tells me I`m a little dyslexic regarding music (too much bass). If you like a deep punch, especially for audio and would like to keep the BL3, try a PV1 from B&W (also very B&O-stylish) or the BL2. If you only would like to give your BL3 the possibility to "breath" and add some deeper volume, the BL11 does a pretty good job. Lot`s of guys with a pair of BL3 are very satisfied with them. And I have to admid, they are very good looking and you have lots of colour options.

But, if you have enough place, the combo BL3 & BL11 is not in the same league.

BL9 always, for sound and looks. BL3 acoustic lens looks cheap IMHO. BL9 grow on you as you live with them:

I own both and no contest. BL11 is not nearly as good sub as the one in the Labs 9.

    My 2 cents
